Yay! He's the only one I know, sight and name if you get me! Couldn't name anything else. Ahh this has been fun Iz

Ah yes, I can see the difference in the socks now between 2 and 8!

I did have to have two goes at the one where you are now though! (Just showing my age with the first guess, I remember seeing him, Mill Reef and Never Say Die there!

Brilliant post- and well done Severn Mistletoe. Does anyone know who No. 1 is yet? (I like him). I'd no idea Danzig was as solid as that. He's built like a tank! His backside wouldn't be out of place on a Quarterhorse.

OOps- might have got the wrong end of the stick there; somehow I'd got the idea that Danzig was the one with the hidden knees and the head shot.

Just like to say, that apart from the pic I am in and the last 2 pics, I am the photographer for all of the others!

1. Giant's Causeway - The Iron Horse! My clue Another was a phenominal racehorsein Europe and ran once in the US, making his mark as a sire!! http://www.coolmore.com/stallions/america/giants_causeway/
scan0001-1.jpg

2. Swain. My clue Another was a multiple Group 1 winner. TBF he was a European Champion http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/sr_sire_page.asp?refno=2467043&origin=singlesearch
scan0002.jpg

3. Johannesburg. World Champion 2yo in 2001 - won Group/Grade one races in England/Ireland/France and USA. My clue Another was World Champion 2yo, though fell to peices at 3. http://www.coolmore.com/stallions/america/johannesburg/
scan0004.jpg

4. King of Kings. My clue Another won the 2000 Guinneas. He used to stand at Coolmore America (Ashford), but is now in Japan (at least that is where they sent him.......)
scan0005.jpg

5. Seattle Slew. RIP old man!! 1977 Triple Crown winner - the only undefeated winner!! My clues Another is an American Triple Crown winner and was a phenominal sire AND Two have stood for the world's highest stud fees and are thought of as sires of sires and good broodmare sires too!! His stud fee was once an astounding $800,000!!! http://www.seattleslew.com/
scan0007.jpg

6. Gone West. My Clues said Another was a good performer in Graded stakes in the US and has become an awesome sire - we Europeans like his stock. And as an aside, I've never met a nasty horse by him!! AND Two share the same broodmare sire - an American Triple Crown winner, though NOT the one pictured His dams sire is Secretariat - who won the Amrican Triple Crown in 1973. Same broodmare sire as the next stallion http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/sr_sire_page.asp?refno=984265&origin=singlesearch
scan0008.jpg

7. Storm Cat. My clues Two have stood for the world's highest stud fees and are thought of as sires of sires and good broodmare sires too!! - he's curently standing for $500,000, though this is apparently under review, after poor yearling sales for the past 2 years - AND Two share the same broodmare sire - an American Triple Crown winner, though NOT the one picturedHis dams sire is Secretariat - who won the Amrican Triple Crown in 1973. Same broodmare sire as Gone West. AND Another was a good racehorse, but a truely fantastic sire! http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/sr_sire_page.asp?refno=935962&origin=singlesearch
26-10-07_2058.jpg

8. DANZIG!!!! My clue Another showed alot of tallent as a racehorse before breaking his knee and retiring to the breeding paddocks, to become one of the world's most influential sires - as both a sire of broodmares and a sire of sires. This stallion was just phenominal!!! Just as the sire of Danehill, nevermind the likes of Green Desert etc... RIP old fella!!
ScannedImage.jpg

9. Passing Glance. My clue One was a decent Group Stakes winner/performer in Europe, but not been a success at stud. http://www.nationalstud.co.uk/stallions-PGlance.asp
pg.jpg

10. Alluvial. My clue One is of no significance as a racehorse, though is bred well and is young. http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/sr_sire_page.asp?refno=6490424&origin=singlesearch

Huge difference in the age of the horse at the time of photos taken too tbh. Swain was about 7 or 8 and Danzig about 24.....

Can't believe I didn't recognise Giants Causeway *hangs head in shame!*

Damn you Iz..I could have had another point...I knew there was a reason you were stood in front of those knees

No 1 is Giant's Causeway.

Danzig was an awesome horse - his groom adored him!! Was so sad when he passed away! You are right, I am in the pic with Danzig and then I found a head shot of him too.

Glad you enjoyed it - took me ages finding and scanning in the pics!

PMSL!! I'm honestly surprised that more peeps didn't get him! I nearly posted this pic

LMAO!! Yup, when I was standing, totally awestruck at holding Danzings headcollar, with him in it, I was thinking to myself 'If I just hide his knees, then in 5 or 6yrs time, I can confuse people on the HHO forum'

Thats another nice piccie...smexy ponio! Des would have a field day with you...his first love is flat racing, his son worked at Whitsbury Manor and he worked for Lord someone or other, which is how he got his foundation mare, she was supposed to make mega bucks and injured herself before the sale and he GAVE her to Des..how nice is that!

Stormcat looks a nicer horse in your grazing photo than in his own stud picture!

LOL - thank you!! Here's another for you

Did you work with these horses in America?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope - but when I was promoted from the farm into the Bloodstock side of things, I was able to make appointments to see all these stallions and many, many more, without sounding like a horseracing groupie. I actually had about 45 pics for this comp - had to narrow it down a bit

What a sweetie! I can almost feel the whiskers on his chin.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seriously - DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! He is reknowned (sp?) for having one of the trickiest temperaments going!!! His sire was almost lethal by the time he died!! Storm Cat's all tend to be GITS of the first order!! I know this pic is only play with his groom, but.....

you missed out my favourite boy Unfuwain and his dad N. Dancer - always preferred Unfuwain to his more famous brother Nashwan

Great post though

Didn't miss them out as such, I never met either horse, hence not including them.
