Little horse needs some virtual pats and I need to keep my chin up!

I'm being a right soppy wuss today (already had leaky eyes at work today). I've taken the little horse, Red who is a 5yr old ex racer I've had since September (he's ickle as he's only 15.1) to the equine horsepital in Liverpool yesterday. He's off for radiation (iridium wire) treatment for a sarcoid in his upper eyelid with Prof Knottenbelt.

He was such a sweetie yesterday, I de-rugged him (while he was sleepy), quick groom , headcollar and boots on and then plonked him in a hired horsebox and then headed the 190 miles! He was as good as gold and settled well after whinnying most of the way until Catterick, then he munched hay, watched the world go by and even had a little snooze! Unboxed him at the other end, had a toddle round, put him in his new stable where he looked ever so happy in the sunshine and waved him goodbye :( I was very good and managed not to have leaky eyes all the way home!

His op is Monday so needing many pats for me and him as it'll be 2 loooong weeks without him :( Thankfully my other horse who is on loan to a friend gave me a big hug and a lick when I got back yesterday, he must have known his little pal was AWOL!

Anyway much choccie and hugs and sorry for being a wuss/feeling like a bad mother.....
 
Thanks, I'm just being totally rubbish, hopefully someone will give me thump and a glass of wine at the yard later to sort me out! X

I have to say the people/staff @ Leahurst are incredibly lovely, he seems to have charmed a couple of interns already by the sound of it too! :)

I know how you feel, when I droped Lucy off at Liphook I was lost without her. It was so strange not seeing her in her stable or field. Luckly she was only away for 3 days.
He'll be back in two weeks :) By the sounds of it he's got all the staff rapped round his little hoof already. :D
 
Virtual pats seem to be working so far thankfully! He's had his op and is wired up, I should find out how long for tomorrow, but by all accounts it went really well so I feel relieved a bit :)

Many chins up now :D The boy Red is doing really well so far and coming home on Tuesday :D Will get another update Friday and Monday, but by all accounts they whip the wires out Tues am then I can collect him and bring him home, can't wait to have my little sweetie back :D :D

The boy is still doing really well in isolation (time spent ignoring him for being naughty has clearly paid off) (joking) and still on course for a return on Tuesday after he has the wires pulled out. Horsebox is booked, just need to confirm a travel buddy as I will go mad/eat vast amounts of choccie&crisps doing a 400 mile trip solo! :D
 
I'm so glad to hear he's doing well and that he can come home on Tue. I bet you can't wait. :) Hope you manage to arrange a travel buddy. I'd be scared of doing 400 miles on my own :o.
 
Bit nervous of doing the 200 miles on the way back with the ned more than anything!

Can't have the same hired box with windows out the back so I might take lunge kit and whizz him round for 10 before I chuck him on to settle him a bit to be certain! He might bother to eat his hay this time rather than traffic watching....
 
Proved wrong again! He's gone a bit skinny minnie again, but is his normal cheeky self and look slike someones poked him in the face with hot wires! Was more worried he'd hate me but clearly not *phew*
Was as good as gold too, loaded first time no drama, slept most of the way home and at one point I almost stopped to check he was still with me he was so quiet :D He's been fussed to death back at the yard and we *might* have had a few cheeky vinos to celbrate the boy's return :D Fingers crossed the damn sarcoid goes eventually and never returns to darken his eye ;)
 
Glad to hear you got back safe and sound. :) And he behaved himself all the way. I wish him all the best in his recovery and hope the sarcoid will go away soon. :D
 
He's doing good psycologically if that makes sense (apologies for spelling) and is as cheeky as normal, which is a huge relief! His scars are a bit weepy tonight but he doesn't seem too bothered by them bless him, will have a walk out Friday and then maybe slow hack Sunday and see how he goes, I'm sure he'll surprise me again!

I am surprised at how he's coped with it, but then he surprises me everyday ;) I am a very lucky Red Mummy and just hope it continues for a very long time :D
