Friend's daughter kindly lent D1 her New Forest four year old and Friend took Big Cob. The Four Shires cubbing on Sunday just gone.

I couldn't go as due to broken back I can't ride 'till February :(

Was a fast ride from what I can gather - galloping down stubble fields, so probably a good job the Dizzy one couldn't go, she's not together enough for it yet (think it would have blown her brain cell lol).

Little Lady was a star :D. Pretty much controlled in a French link snaffle. We realised that whilst she used to swing her feet around, she hasn't done it for a good six months, even when in strange company. She maintained this record and was beautifully behaved :D. They popped a few small fences as well :D

Unfortunately Friend came out the side door (galloping downhill, stubble field) and in true hard-woman-to-hound fashion got back on! Was a bit iff afterwards so is being checked out in hospital. Back is okay though :D.

When D gets pictures downloaded I'll post them :D

I find it interesting... This is my first real foray into the world of hunting (not counting my childhood days, etc.), and my second post in here. I would have thought that, with 88 views, some of the seasoned hunters would have been keen to pass comment, to encourage the newbies into the fold as it were.

As it is, two comments from kind friends.

Hm. Hunting. This is where, when my Friend came off on Sunday, they waited whilst she got back on, but as soon as she was on, the rest of them were away, leaving my just sixteen year old daughter, first time out, trying to get on a spinning pony (she had got off to help Friend).

So far, less than impressed, which is a pity as once I am fixed, I have the time, money, and energy to take this up. I want to be convinced, but so far...

Ta hun. I don't think it will put them off hunting per se, I think they will try another one, but if this is an example of an intro meet :(. If my back had been okay I would have been there on Dizzy, thinking that we were going to be taking it reasonably steadily as it was advertised as being in two parts - one fast and one slow; we would have gone, as Friend and D1 did, for the slow one. From what I can gather of the speeds and terrain, it would have blown Dizz's brain cell :(. I have to admit that it's making me wonder, not only if I will go, but if I will let D1 go again. I expected hard riding later on in the year, no question about that, but not now.

Sorry, I'm going on again, but I don't know what is to be expected as we are new to this.


*if I do go.... I promise to wear a body cast, rubber dinghy (fully inflated), full face helmet, and carry a couple of ankers :D*
 
Bloodhounding does tend to be fairly fast moving.

I'm surprised that they found so little help when friend fell off, when I've been out on foot with the four shires they have always seems a very friendly bunch.

You could try the Burne Bloodhounds, they are in your area and are a nice friendly and welcoming bunch.
 
If you want a quieter outting, try going on a children's meet. You'll find there will be a few on lead rein and unless Linford Christie has hold of them, they won't be going that fast :p:D.

As I understand it, cubbing is to introduce the younger hounds to hunting, not necessarily the newer members.

I wait to stand corrected mind as it is a good 15 years since I last hunted as I've not had a sane (or sound) enough horse to do it :(.
