I just want to rant a bit!
I had found a lovely loaner. She seemed to be getting on fine with one of my horses, was going that extra mile, ie used to take saddlecloths and girths home to wash weekly etc. I think she had a good deal? She had unlimited riding, however many days as she wanted, to come and go as she pleased, and no chores. For the this she was paying £20 per week towards cost, she didn’t pay when she went on holidays etc. I thought it strange as it didn’t look as if she had been down for a while as her saddle hadn’t moved. Anyway, I had a text yesterday saying that she cant afford it anymore so she wouldn’t be down again… no notice or anything! (yep, we had a contract but whats the point in insisting they give me the correct notice, if she says she isnt coming down, she isnt coming down and i cant force her) I was in two minds whether to bother replying or not, as she hadn’t had the decency to even call me but I thought she seemed to have been doing a good job so, I text her back asking what could she afford if she still wanted to continue as I would rather pay more of her upkeep myself and have the right person loaning her. The reply, she cant afford anything at the moment….
No-way and I letting someone have free unlimited riding which seems to be what is wanted !
Why are decent long term loaners so hard to find??? I had one on loan for years and both the owner and I were very happy with the arrangements etc.
Rant over !

ps - i know there are some fab sharers out there, its just where to find you!

Try advertising at stannah and local horse shows.

Did you find anyone to work on your yard?

What a shame. That was a bit rude of her!
I can't stand text messaging at all, ban it! People are becoming so gutless. We had one girl that used to text in sick! Which in my opinion is spineless and pathetic.
She should have come to see you, explained that she was having trouble affording it and done it all very nicely.
I hope you find someone soon!

Are you looking for a loan or share my friend has a pony who was sold to her under false pretences /age related and she is looking for something to replace him.

Sounds like she has just lost interest and can't be bothered any more.

I had a sharer like that, I suspected she wasn't turning up which was very annoying as it meant my horse wasn't being fed those days and it was winter (fortunately she was on full livery but it just meant she wasn't getting an even hard feed). This was a free share as well. Its so hard getting good sharers, if you find one, keep them! I think even if you paid someone, a lot of people out there would still find excuses to be unreliable.

It really annoys me when I hear of things like this, as I am despite to loan/share a horse as I cannot afford my own, ok I live in Surrey so appreciate costs etc are higher but I cannot find anything that I can afford so it gets my back up when people treat decent offers pathetically.

Hope something works out for you though.

Hasn't ANYONE stopped to think the loanee could be hugely embarrassed that they can no longer afford the expense? That they may be upset and feel they can't face someone?

Rubbish! Whether she can afford it or not, there is no excuse for lack of manners, especially after the great deal that she had going. OP is better off without her.
