Little people - big horses - what size is your combination

Well I have a 15'3 horse and am 5'6(ish on a good day) but OH is 6' plus. We do fine with him. I do notice that OH's legs do tend to come back and up sometimes, especially during transitions. However, I am currently riding YM's mare and she's near enough 17hh - so a big difference to what I'm used to. I wouldn't buy a horse that size as it would be too muh for me I think, unless it was espeially easy. I do like riding the 17hh - she's not easy but a lot of quality and it's good experience for me to improve my riding by riding another horse. I think ideal size for me is about 16hh/ 16'1. The next time I buy I might actually consider going over to the continent - smaller horses (15'2-16') dont' tend to be popular over there but luckily for us shorties there are some bargains by the sounds of it!

I am 5ft 3 and my horse is 16.1 hh, a bit bigger than I wanted as he was only supposed to make 15.2!!
My last horse was 17 hands and miles too big for me, I had to stand on a crate just to put his saddle on! He was 1/4 shire and very much a mans horse so I sold him

Something I regret to this day as he was otherwise perfect

) Having said that I don't feel overhorsed on her as she is very responsive to me and we've been together for about 10 years now so she's just "the norm" for me.

I am currently exercising a supposed 17.2hher

.... But I actually think he is bigger than that!

He is huuuuuuuuge!!

Having said that, I wouldn't choose to have horses that big - horse hunting wise, ideally, I want something 15.3/16hh

I'm 5'5" & have a 16.2 ID who, if I'm honest, is quuite a bit too big for me. Luckily he's always been my horse so doesn't need long legs wrapped round him to make him move!

I'll ride almost anything as long as I'm happy it can carry me. I do feel underhorsed on most other horses though & the few ponies I've ridden since having Jim feel extremely odd!!!!

Thank you to everyone that has responded, it has been very interesting to read your comments. My conclusion is that it does not matter what size the rider to horse relationship is, as long as it works.

I have a 17hh t.b and I am 5.2 and 8 stone. My other horse is bigger and too much for me and so my best friend has taken her over as she is a bigger and stronger rider. I am currently working with my yearling arab who I am hoping and praying will make at least 15hh and I think she will be perfect for me.

Once again thanks for the replies.

I'm 5ft 3". Amy is just under 15hh but not being ridden. I exercise 18hh heavyweight hunter, 17hh medium weight hunter, and had on loan in the summer 17hh mare. Smallest horse I currently ride is just 16.2, and feels tiny.
