I have always had problems with Millie when the farrier comes. She will rear, barge, pull back etc. It doesn't matter weather she is tied up, cross tied or I am clinging onto her she always, always misbehaves at some point. The farrier has been cut several times when trying to get the nails in and as you can imagine didn't have an awful lot of patience with her

Up until about 3 farrier visits ago I used to twitch her (which I hated doing) as we found this was the easiest and quickest way to get her done. But I decided that we were not achieving anything from this so went back to the old method of me trying to cling on to her. Farrier has been a lot more patient and instead of trying to get all the nails in as quickly as possible he has been putting a couple in and then letting her rest, then a couple more etc.

Today for the FIRST TIME EVER we got her shod without a single incident, not one! I was so pleased with her and my Farrier was

all the way through. Neither of us said anything about her behaviour until the very end as we thought we might jinx it

I think the treat I made him give her at the very start worked well
