My arab had his shoes off early due to an initially mysterious hoof issue which turned out to be an abscess. Now he's over it I figured its not worth shoeing and bringing him back to full work for the rest of the season, but I do want to keep riding him at least until the rubbish weather kicks in.
I did my research and got him some Easyboot Wide Gloves for his front hooves which seem to fit him perfectly. However I took him out in them for the first time today and all went well apart from when he did one spook his left front leg shot straight out sideways from under him.
The lanes round us are like ice rinks and you can't entertain them shod without tungsten stud nails all round. This, put together with my horses action, which is not the most foot-sure, is making me rethink options. To get out to the lanes from the yard we also have to go down a half stoney, half muddy/slippery bridleway.
So, can I get little road studs put in my Easyboot Gloves? I don't want the studs designed for them as they look too large for road work. Is it possible to use ordinary tiny studs with hoof boots? Anyone done it or have any other suggestions, other than just using no hoof protection at all which I'm not comfortable with, plus then horse would certainly fall over!
