If anyone has any suggestions for stopping little stones getting into hoof boots I would appreciate. We currently wear Cavello boots and overall are happy with them, but due to wet ground little bits of grit etc get in, I assume over the top. We do avoid where possible boggy ground. I was thinking also of buying some new boots perhaps a little less chunky, although I have no problems with the Cavello's:)

When browsing boot accessories on the saddlery store I seem to remember seeing a kind of boot filler there to expand into the gaps between the boot and the hoof to give a made to measure fit - I wonder if that would do the trick? One of ours has gloves on her fronts occasionally and I must admit we haven't had a problem with grit getting into the boots. Perhaps a closer fitting style might help?

Easy boot gloves every time! Small, discreet and close fitting so no wet or dirt gets in! :-) I didn't get on with my cavellos, I found them to clumpy and they moved a lot.

You can get internal gaiters that fill in the space and help prevent grit getting in them but mine were Boa's. I also used to put socks on before the boot which helped too. the other slightly weird thing I have seen is Golly Galoshes taped to the top of the boot, bit of a faff but meant hi viz and stopped anything getting in the boot :)

Try a roll of vetrap around hoof and coronet band before putting on boots. If they are slack put some cotton wool roll (from boots) under the vet wrap.

I use the gaiters for the Old Macs in my Cavallos - they fit around the pastern and fill the gap - they are far far better than the Cavallo gaiters - they don't move!

Thanks for replies, Yes I thought the old mac gaitors look good and I shall also be looking at buying a different kind of boot like you suggested, I suppose I am a bit nervous about buying a close fitting boot and needing to get the size spot on. Do they allow for growth between trims. I could always put on the Cavellos towards the end of the 6wk trim cycle.

If you are looking at getting new ones then take a gander at the equine fusions. They look really good. Bitlessandbarefoot.com do a thing where you can trial them too.
