Thought we could have a nice cheery Friday thread. So what little things have made you smile this week?

Personally I'm beaming because today my pony stayed calm when I put the reins over his head, popped his bridle on and stroked him around the ears. I know it's an everyday occurrence that most wouldn't notice but for us it's mega. When I bought him two months ago he was so headshy I had to dismantle the bridle to get it on and it could take twenty minutes for him to let you put it on :D
 
I woke up at the yard this morning (house sitting for Y/O) and when i walked onto the yard he wouldnt stop calling very excited :o I thought it was the usual breakfast thing but even after breakfast he wouldnt shut up chatting and following me around ... This week is the first full week where i get called to when i arrive on the yard .. For me its one of the most amazing feelings in the world when he doesnt call to anyone else :D
 
I saw mine yesterday for the first time in a week (been on holiday). Very smiley!

It didn't last, though. Neddy made it quite clear that he wasn't prepared to start working again :P
 
Seeing the three year old and the two year old fillies, who have been here for less than three weeks, both lying down, in the sunshine this morning, you could barely get a fag paper between them :D
 
I was going to start my own, similar thread, so I'll jump on yours. :)

Have allowed Henry some well deserved time off for the last two days, so have concentrated on starting Chloe again. Yesterday she did 20 min ambling around the school and then we walked out of the yard down the long drive, allowing her to graze before getting back on. Today I walked her out through the hay field, stopping to treat every so often and then got on to ride back. She was so chilled, which is lovely, as she's a nervous pony by nature. Her previous riding session was 5 min walk, 5 min clicker training session, then another 5 min walk. Seems to be working a treat and she's really enjoying getting out of the field.

Then I got home today and Rosco (cat) was waiting for me, as always. Quick cuddle with him, then sat down and the other kitty (Sandy) came for a cuddle. She's also a nervous cat and we haven't had her long, so I'm feeling rather blessed to have my animals, today.

Antw23uk, I get a welcome call at the yard, too, which I haven't noticed for any other horses and their owners. I know it's cupboard love, but still warms yer cockles, dunnit? :)
 
a saddle fitting that resulted in freer shoulders and more forward movement

riding my recently backed 6 yr old in just a halter, the 2 much older horses we were with were cantering sideways running backwards spinning and foaming up, both went mad at the sight of a tractor and trailer, my young lady ignored it all and was so close to tractor and trailer she stole a mouthful of hay as we went past. TBH i could have done with a bit more excitement but need to get all the basics in first then life can move a bit closer to the fast lane.

seeing a crayfish (or similar) in the river/stream when standing in it on my mare

it has been a good week for me hope it has for others too
 
My new 4 yr old mare took 2.5 minutes to eat a mint imperial last night, I video'ed it on my phone, she dropped it twice and sucked it till gone! Made me chuckle anyway! :)
 
Being able to start work again after a fortnight off due to an abscess. My boy is so much happier when he's working - he's gone from being a grumpy bitey git back to his happy, friendly self in just 48 hours! I haven't worked out just what he likes about working so much but it does make sense that he was sold because his previous owners didn't have time to work him enough - they must have seen the same personality changes when he's off games. So we are both grinning today!
 
Had first lesson on new horse last night and he was amazing! Instructor loved him and he was mega-willing despite being a little unfit! And the bratty TB did a whole 25 minutes in the school doing everything asked beautifully and not even a sniff of a tantrum!
 
A missing pony who had been borrowed for a pony ride not appearing home for three days because the kid loved her so much
 
Riding my welsh D mare bare back for the first time (she is 8 and I broke her myself so god knows why I have never fine it before! )


I only walked and trotted her bareback last night - she was very wobbly and a bit unsure as she's not used to having someone on her back without a saddle! lol

I had tacked up and was in the school when I got a call from the lady who is repairing my rug. She was on her way and wanted to see it on her. So I dismounted, whipped her saddle off and was stood waiting. She took longer than I thought though so the temptation to jump on when the mounting block was so close was too much! I think Luna was very surprised! lol
 
My loan mare swiping at naughty youngsters who were a bit too exuberant around me, then actually escorting me to the gate.

Not been able to ride for a while so think she more wants to work than is actualy worried about me but I'm telling myself she was looking out for me ;)
 
Oh and the thing thats really making me smile .. right now .... is just the thought that i finish work in 15 minutes and im off to see my boy :)

And when I see him ... well thats gona make me smile just a bit more :o​
 
:D YO took me and husband up the fields in his little mini truck thingy to see his youngstock as well as his retired horses <whispers> I got to ride in the trailer part, lol!

I also viewed a lovely pony, hope to be vetting him on Monday, barring any disasters or thunderstorms/flash floods, etc. YO showed me another one today that is also very nice, but totally different. I will be getting a better look at him tomorrow, as he was out at grass today. I think if the other pony doesn't work out then he would be worth vetting...

And Her Royal Highness Lady Domino Deathtoallothercats actually didn't hiss at me when I was changing her litter tray today. She is our semi-feral temporary cat: we took her on as she belonged to a family member who simply could not keep her due to illness. She hates all other cats though, so she is just with us until a good permanent home is found - shelters are full. PM me if you want details of her.

I turned round while poo picking today to see a farmer leaning over the fence, petting my baby girl's head (yearling), in the rough but sweet way that only farmers can do. Might not seem like much, but until recently she's been convinced that everyone except me is dangerous!
 
Taking my mare into the fields and going "a bit faster" - so good to be back doing things after her summer off work due to injury, she is LOVING it and it puts the biggest smile on my face after a horrible day in the office as she bounds around the fields! :biggrin3:
 
When Kyra sees my boyfriend. She utterly lives for him, hes got a loud car and if he comes to pick me up she'll hear it, squeal, run around like a loon and then wait for him at the gate. She doesn't do it for anyother human being but him. He doesnt even like horses!
 
I managed to hack my just turned four boy around a little block with no spooking or shying. He stopped more in company if anything! Truly fabulous evening it was! I was also given a DSLR camera for my birthday so I'm super excited to try and learn how to use it an take nice photos to remember these little things!!
 
Just dragged myself up to the farm after being ill for 4 days with a tummy bug and my baby is due to be born today but no sign. Feeling utterly crap so my husband took me up to see my horse who was being ridden by his loaner. It was lovely just to see him and that made me smile, I gave him a hug and a rub and he was happy to see me, but still confused by my huge bump.
 
So many things....

Having my little mare nuzzle me when I scratch her on the shoulder and withers or brush her legs.
When it was snowing during the winter, watching her gallop around the indoor school doing a bucking bronco act when she was let loose for a 'bit of a exercise' and then have a really good roll.
 
Got back from 4 days away, schooled this morning and C did some really lovely ( and quite difficult work work) without a single argument...miracle! My trainer actually said "Wow". Went into the stable this evening and he whickered. I've had him four years and he's never done that before, I think at long last we have a real bond. It has been a long road with him and I've often thought of giving up but today i'm so glad i didn't.
 
Arriving at the yard this morning to my young tb mare a bit more settled at the new yard (no longer doing crazy backwards and forwards walk in stable) she let me brush her belly again (it a sign the trust is gone when she doesn't) to then tack up for lesson and not do our 20min mounting block dance and to finally feel her relaxing while ridden again! Oh and it only took me one minute to get her back into her stable (previous record was 45min) I think it maybe the end of the most stressful 3 weeks while she has been settling at the new yard :)

After a pretty awful week (see my thread about my horribly broken arena) I was so pleased to get my former non hacker out for a solo hack after two weeks off work.
She wasn't hesitant at all, she did consider spinning once when she met a milk float for the first time but she held herself together and a 45 min hack put a huge smile on my face. :0)
 
worrying about turning our newly 'aquired' filly who is 12 months and previously unhandled, we have been looking after her 3 weeks, and decided we were at some point going to have to allow her to enjoy summer turnout, but worrying about catching her in LARGE field, took the plunge tonight, in stages granted but it appears she will come running to meet us :) although sure thats just as she loves her food, had us beaming. Just hope we still are in the morning :0)
 
Had one of the worst weeks ever to be honest :( Little daughter rushed to resus for the 4th time in 8 weeks (she is only 5, very small for her age and very severely disabled) and having no end of problems with housing adaptions etc :(
However I did have some up to date pictures of my baby Yellow Naped Amazon parrot that is being handreared so that put a smile on my face. Apart from my daughter I really live for my animals (3 big dogs, 3 soon to be 4 parrots, 2 horses, 3 rabbits, 1 gerbil and 3 mice lol).
 
getting back on my lad for the first time in nearly a year, work, lousy weather, (we still had sheet ice at easter) his injury, my injury, all got in the way, I managed 30 mins before riding became painful, best 30 mins of my life
 
Well not so little, mini me stole the show today and won her first ridden class at 6 yrs old today out of 28 riders and ponies. First ever first ridden class. Report tomorrow lol.
