I have two ponies. One is a delight and takes everything in his stride.

The other is an 18 month old colt who has been jumpy with me despite being well handled in his previous home. I mucked up with the handling when I first had him and the breakdown of trust has taken a long time for him to overcome (absolutely my fault, I pushed him too fast too soon without letting him settle in first and I have kicked myself ever since)

He has slowly become ok with me doing little things around him like picking out his feet etc

Today I picked out his feet, checked his heels were ok, trimmed the scraggy ends off his tail, gave him a brush and checked him all over very thoroughly.

I know its only a small thing but its the longest time he has tolerated me in one go and I came away with the most massive beam on my face - better than any Christmas present

Sometimes the littlest things are the biggest things. Well done! Maybe it is your turn to learn about the patience thing!! ;)

I know, I co*ked it all up - I didnt allow for the fact that although he had been well handled and exposed to lots of situations he hadnt ever done those things with me!

Thanks for all of your comments everyone :)

It's great when stuff like that happens! My horse responded to being scratched with his lip going long this morning. Quite often, he won't tolerate that and backs off, so today I had a smile on my face too!!

Fantastic :D I remember the first time Ned let me give him a proper groom :) He would try and kick me if I brushed his tail when he first arrived!

Well done you and I hope you have many more little triumphs!
