For those that are interested/offered advice I'd just like to let you all know that my little shetland mare is totally sound. I took her off the bute after the vet visited, within 3 days she was out in a starvation paddock (with hay) and has been foot perfect every day since! :)
The pen has been moved about a bit so that she does have a little grass to eat and so far so good - she lost a little weight and I think she looks & feels better for that and as an added bonus our 'bonding' seems to have begun...
I'm not really a mare person TBH but when I saw Strawberry with her old family I knew she would be perfect for my daughter so I decided to put my distaste for mares aside & buy her . She's a bit odd with adults TBH and can be a little madam but with tots she a different animal, very gentle and quiet. I have always thought she was super cute but it's taken me a while to really take to her (whereas with my big gelding I loved him the moment he stepped off the lorry!) BUT after a couple of weeks tending to her when she was poorly she's seemed to become a bit more affectionate towards/accepting of me and I've started to see her in a different light...:o
And for good measure here she is with my daughter (taken before the weather turned awful!)

They both look adorable! I am so pleased that she is continuing to do well, I had a little shetland mare when I was about six, she was the sweetest thing too. I'm sure your daughter will have many happy years with her. :)

Thank you both! I'm so relieved that she appears to have made a full recovery - she's not going to like me much now though as I'm not allowing her much grass (which she loves) and definitely NO APPLES (which she really loves!) :D

What a perfect name for a shetland ! So glad she is well again now, its been a bad year for laminitis, my cob was given the all clear to restart work this morning after his first ever episode.

The good side of boxrest is the bonding time you get to have with a new horse, so while laminitis is awful, it can have an unexpected bonus.

Thanks Horserider! She's a 'Strawberry' through & through!!!! I hope we continue to bond, I'm kind of treating her like a big dog at the moment & walking her everywhere I go around the fields & yard to help shift a bit more weight!!!!
