Liveries. How far do you walk from the yard to your horses field?

About 50-100 yards depending on the field im in. Ive been on a yard where ive had a ten min walk to get to and from the field, i dont mind as long as its a safe path and lit in the winter

Yard I was at previously a good 15 minutes up and down some steep hills. We'd always try and turn one out as we brought one in so we could ride out and back! Previous yard was a 10 minute walk and current one about 100m until I section it then about 300m? Hardly unreasonable distances. If you're fit enough to ride a horse you're fit enough to walk 200m when you're able bodied!

Round here the livery owners or yardmangers dont take any argument, but it is not polite.
If it does not suit her she can go elsewhere.
Last place i was at the ponies had to be walked a long way while the RS ponies were kept in local fields

Spark up till yesterday was in the furthest paddock summer & winter - probably 200/300m with last 50/100m unmade track (thus muddy in winter), she has now moved closer to the yard, and has a track to the field now - luxury!

How far is acceptable?

I got a mouthful yesterday from an owner because I had moved a horse to a rested paddock which meant a walk of maybe 200m from the barn, all of 100m further than before,. Completely unreasonable I was informed. Really? For an able bodied person?

Oh, and I have it in my contracts that I reserve the right to move any horse where I see fit.

I was so stunned that I didn't say anything, probably just as well ;)

From your post it sounds like she just turned up yesterday and found you had moved her horse? i may of got this wrong, so ignore if I had, but if I had turned up to the yard where don is and found he had been put in a different field without me knowing, yes, I would be pretty peeved, maybe she was more annoyed that it had just been done, than the distance?

At the moment its about 700 metres but when they move on to summer grazing it will be about 2500 metres for the geldings and 2000metres for the mares in the opposite direction and then about 1000metres for the stallion... i own one of each and they are all opposite directions so i have a bit of walking to do and its quite a walk when they are messing about but its fine by me :)

Only reason I'd be miffed if horse had moved to lush field was if I was watching weight etc, or if I knew he was in the closest one and I was short of time and came down to find him in the furthest one without being told...

No problem there :)

I don't do lush fields, these are Quarter Horses they get fat on fresh air :)
I would rather feed hay if they needed extra.

Yours is a reasonable point though :)

The place where I used to ride the furthest field the liveries were in was about 5 minutes walk away down the road. Not ideal but not too awful either. The RS ponies were turned out about 10 minutes away in the opposite direction (which was ok provided you weren't trying to lead 3 or 4 of them along the road)

jeez, that livery would be upset if she were at my yard.

I do have one of my horses in a handy field, but the other is up a grass track, it gets very muddy at times which is a pain, but its well worth it for the horse, the grazing is always very good out there, they have trees to shelter from sun, rain and what have you and because people are lazy and cba for the walk it is never or very rarely filled to capacity.

There is one other livery who walks about the same distance to their field but it's on a proper track so doesn't get muddy.

Sounds like your livery needs to get a bit of a grip, I'd be happy to have a nice rested field for my horses.
