Does your yard have restrictions on use of arena? Eg are there times when there are lessons / outside bookings when you can't use it? Are there dedicated times when the arena is definitely free for use by liveries?

Are you allowed to have outside instructors come in and teach you at your yard? Do you have to pay extra fro this (apart from paying the instrucor obviously!)

Also do you have restricctions in terms of what you can/ can't do eg lunging / jumping / loose schooling?

So many questions

okay
We can use school whenever there are not lessons (only about 3 times a day so not bad!)
We cannot loose school as would probs never see horse again (would jump over wall into cirencester park lmao!)
Not sure about outside instructors!

It is £10 a week for unlimited use (liveries) or £10 to hire for an hour for anyone

At my new yard you can book the school for lessons/use. You can loose school but horses are not allowed to roll. At my old yard you could do whatever you wanted-not good!

Can use the school unless booked for a lesson by another livery. Can book the school when we like for lessons with outside instructors (povided no one else has already booked it). No extra charges for use of school. No restrictions, but can't loose school as school not fenced!!!

We are allowed to use either arena whenever they are not booked for lessons or clinics & if one is booked then the other is usually free.
We can't jump indoors but can outdoors. Outdoor is used for dressage comps every couple of weeks over summer so if the boards are out ready for a dressage competition we have to respect that & keep it clear of jumps.
We have a seperate lunging area so are not allowed to lunge in either arena. We loose school in the lunge paddock & are allowed to turn out there over winter (we have no winter turnout) as long as nobody wants to lunge & as long as our horses are supervised at all times.

Can use school even if another livery is having a lesson (livery would have to pay for sole use otherwise - £20/hour)but not when a jumping lesson.
Can bring outside instructor in at no extra charge.
Can loose school, lunge, let them have a leg stretch whilst doing jobs (but not if they eat the wood).
School is sometimes privately hired to outsiders, we can't ride in it then but we do have an outdoor we can use (not lit).

Current yard no restrictions, if you want a specific time you can book it on a board.

Old yard didn't have rules about what we could do in there but we got charged £4 per half hour to use school, £15 per hour to bring in your own instructor and you had to buy your own jumps and find somewhere to store them if you wanted to jump

Jumps etc must be put away after use
All drioppings picked up
May have own instructor
No g'tee of exclusive use, but its 60m so plenty of room to share

No outside hirers, no riding school, but no lights.

We have free use of the arena and may lunge in it although loose schooling is for the lunge pen only.

The only time it may be booked is if you have a lesson or a saddle fitter/check.
You can have what ever instructor you like, there is no charge and other liveries are not to ride in there when someone is having a lesson. Other than that we share courteously amoungst our selves and also have a lunge pen and jumping paddock to use.

As long as there are no lessons going on/no competitions/the arena isn't set up for a competition/it's before 8:15pm then we're allowed to use the arenas.

I did keep my horse at a yard where none of the liveries were allowed to move a horse (including catching in, take out of stable to tie up, etc) when the owner (whose husband was an equine dentist
wink.gif
) was riding her aged schoolmistress dressage mare in the school (even though you couldn't see it from some of the fields/stables).
This was because her horse became 'distracted' and any poor dressage schooling would, naturally, be the fault of the inconsiderate liveries.

We are lucky as we are on small yard and we have never clashed on using the school. We always write our lesson time on the board, but apart from that we just get on and enjoy it with no restrictions at all.

There are occasionally restrictions, like it's sometimes hired out on a sunday for a couple of hours to the local PC. On yard instructor sometimes does jumping clinics so it's obviously booked up/not free then unless you're in the clinic. YO also sometimes does shows so again, booked up then.

We have a diary which we write in to book it for a lesson, but that's the only time we can book it. Can't just book it because we want it to ourselves. The school is also big enough (65x25m I think) for two lessons to share if they're flat lessons.

Yes outside instructors can come. No they don't have to pay extra.

We can't loose school in it, but wouldn't want to as the fences are quite low. We can lunge ATM as our indoor is out of action. Jumping is fine as long as the jumps are put away afterwards.

Liveries can do what they like in our school. I'm not a fan of that to be honest as horses charges around playing and rolling just buggers-up the surface. Also I am a misery and insist that my mare sees the school as a place of work, not somewhere she can chuck herself about and roll. She has plently of time for that duing the other 23 hours a day (not to mention her rather too frequent days off), but live and let live - not my decision! Ours can be booked by liveries for lessons only. Its not used for non liveries and people are supposed to put jumps away

Can you tell that my thing is dressage?

Our indoor school is ours unless an outsider has booked and paid. If we want to have private use of it we need to book it and put it in the diary.

There are days that have been booked by PC or RC or another group that mean we can't use indoor school, but we have another outdoor one and would have loads of notice.

We have some restrictions such as the yard owners always have the right to use it alone if required.
We ask people to lunge sensibly not at a gallop as it ruins the surface, and to move to different places instead of always in the same circle.
We have no objection to anyone coming to teach apart from any parelli person, who we would ban on principle!
Jumping is fine but we ask the jumps are left as found when you've finished.
Loose schooling isn't really sensible because there are unfenced banks on two sides so the horses might jump out..
yes, occasionally there may be a lesson booked so it isn't available.

At our yard we can use the school whenever we like but we enter in a diary cos we get priority over non liveries hiring it and yes we can have any instructor we like. On a previous yard the YO wouldn't let other instructors on yard which was one of my reasons for moving.

We don't have any restrictions on the use of the arena. It is available to hire for outside bookings, but they don't get a guaranteed empty school.

Outside instructors can come in teach for no extra cost, and sometimes there's been 3 separate lessons going on at once

We can lunge and jump whenever we want, but loose schooling isn't really allowed, and ridden/lunged horses get priority over horses that are turned out in the school

She had a go at me once because I was bringing him in, and I had to take him past the school and her horse looked up at us and we 'spoiled the outline'. wtf??????????

The yard I'm at has two schools. As the place is also a riding school, one is used for lessons on Saturdays and Tues, Weds and Thurs evenings. On Sundays, Mondays and Fridays there are no lessons in there so the liveries can use it. If you want to you can book it for private use for £3 an hour. If you're jumping and you've got more than two jumps up you have to book it for private use. You can ahve an outside instructor in, but you have to book the school, and they have to give their insurance details to the YOs

The other school is just for the liveries, no one can book it and it's never used for lessons so is always available to ride in.

It works pretty well really as there's always somewhere to ride and if people do want private use of a school it's pretty cheap

We're on a small yard - liveries can book school for lessons, otherwise we can use whenever. We are allowed to lunge, loose school and turn out in there. If we jump we have to put jumps away after.

We have 2 schools and don't have any restrictions so you can jump, lunge, loose school, turn out etc. There aren't any jumps in the smaller school so we just leave them up in the bigger one. There's no way of booking either school and you can still ride in there if someone's having a lesson although people tend not to.

Our arena can be used any time No more than two in at a time. if you want private use it must be booked on the board. We do have outside instructors - but they have to pay £10 an hour for use of the school unless coming to teach me - the YO. We also insist that any outside instructor proves they have insurance before we will allow them to teach here as otherwise our insurance is invalidated

There is no charge made for the arena to any of the liveries and they can use if for as as long as they like as many time a week as they want.

Lunging is fine - no turn out into the arena. And no loose schooling as few people do it right and most simply chase the horse round causing it to cut up arena badly.

All jumps to be cleared away after use - only a problem in winter as summer we have a jumping paddock and they just stay out. All poo to be picked up after every horse.

We are able to use the school any time other than when there are lessons going on (2 afternoons a week). There is no charge for using the school however we are on full livery. No charge for outside instructors. Only rules are you must pick up your own droppings and turn lights out after use, which is all reasonable.

Where I am at the moment there are restrictions on arena use due to the fact there is also a riding school on site.

Liveries can use the indoor school
All day Monday
Tuesday-Friday before 10am, 1-2pm, and after 8pm
Sat-Sun before 9.30am and after 5pm
Plus whenever else it may be free (but you need to phone to check)

You are allowed your own instructors but you have to book the school out at a cost of £10

I love my yard

We can use the arena any time we like, as long as no one is having a lesson (Saturdays). There are only 2 allowed in the school at one time, unless someone is jumping, then it's only one person allowed at a time. It works out really well.

You are allowed to bring in another instructor if you wish.

As I am on full livery, there is no extra cost for using the school. The grass liveries are also able to use it without charge.

The restrictions are: no more than 4 in at once, no loose lunging or letting horses roll on the lunge line (yes the people at my yard are that stupid), put the jumps away after use (but that sometimes doesn't get done), no jumping if others want to do flatwork.
You can bring instructors in and there is no charge, but lessons shouldn't be booked between 3pm and 8pm so that the school is free for everyone to use. Also no lessons at wknds (can be waivered in the summer when most wish to ride outside)
