Liverpool horse show fire

Dreadful. Have a friend there who posted earlier to say she and friend are safe.
Latest update 10 mins ago was they are now evacuating the arena. Bit difficult for them as car in car park (No idea if ok) and accom adjacent also being evacuated. They are glad all horses out, tho many had to stand in arena for a long while. Hope they find somewhere for tonight, before the long trip home.

Fingers crossed all are safe.

All horses and people accounted for they believe, but anything on the floor the fire started and above is definitely no more, and still to be confirmed on the level the stabling was. Reports of dogs being left in cars though when we were there. We arrived just as they started the horse evacuation out of the stabling. We were due to park up about 45 mins earlier in that car park but I changed plans as didn't want OH to bore too early!
They were talking about rescheduling for tomorrow but can't see the fire being out by then, especially as there were no doubt PHEV cars etc that basically have to be left to it, and then there is the investigation.
Truly sobering how much worse it could've been.
And I wish people would stop with the racism and insinuating its terrorism - no reason to suggest it is, just a freak thing that's had pretty devastating affects for those with cars in there (and dogs, if they were left).
Bloke standing next to us wasn't happy, but in true British spirit just said he is refusing to pay his parking fees now. He'd paid for his parking and having got to his car got told to leave it :o

We were there, it was a random Range Rover that caught fire and couldn’t be contained. All cars now reported destroyed and looks like the building may collapse. The smoke was awful but first responders were great. The show got all horses and people out safely and most are at Aintree Racecourse who very quickly opened their doors to everyone. Very sad for anyone who lost possessions in the fire but it could have been a lot worse

I have, i believe lost my car (and contents) utterly ****** start to the new year. No chance of a replacement car for work on Tuesday, plans for tomorrow cancelled, no coat shoes or make up for work on Tuesday, no celebrations tonight. Just totally fed up.

Trying very hard to remember that at least no one was hurt and all the stuff can be replaced but frankly it sucks.

Having seriously considering entering the show for the amateur classes but deciding against it as it’s better value to go to Spain for 6 weeks to jump, I’m so glad I didn’t go. I was talking to my mother only the other day how it didn’t seem safe that the horses where stabled in a multi storey car park as if there was an emergency what would happen and now look what’s happened.

It’s very unlikely show will run again tomorrow as the horses would have all split up and left ‘secure’ FEI stabling so not sure how this would be addressed in regards to doping possibilities and FEI rules about horses having to be stabled securely on site.

Sorry to hear that. You're absolutely right, thankfully no people or horses were harmed, but this has clearly impacted on a lot of peoples' everyday lives. I would hope your work would be understanding if you took Tuesday to get insurance and replacement items organised.

My thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by this terrifying looking fire.

Where are you Kat? If you need a car, you could use mine as I don't need it this week. You'd need to dodge potholes but it's there if you need it?

I was seriously considering getting tickets as a Christmas present - so glad I didn’t now!

Kat it must be a nightmare - try to hold on to the fact that you are safe, but yes you are still effected.

They have mooted the possibility of rescheduling to today which I’m not surprised at.

There was a statement last night it wasn't going to happen. We were saying while we were waiting they can't possibly, or certainly not with the competition element, and there is no way the area of the car park is safe.

Yes it was confirmed last night that they wouldn't be rescheduling. I suspect that it was said largely to avoid fuss on the night when they were trying to get people to leave calmly.

The whole thing was very odd, it seemed that the fire became much worse than expected quite quickly as at one point they were talking about people who couldn't get home staying at the arena over night and then they were asking people to leave quite forcefully a short time later. It was only when we got outside that it was clear that the whole car park was ablaze.

There were people far worse off than us, so I need to keep positive really.

Nugget La Poneh thank you so much for your very kind offer! Extremely generous thank you. I should be ok for transport with a bit of juggling as the OH has a car and my mum doesn't use her car much.

Work will be understanding, though I will make sure I go in tomorrow then I can save any goodwill for days when transport is a problem. I might look a little scruffy on tuesday but I can buy some new shoes on my lunch break! Might have to buy mascara today though 😮

Latest news is that firefighters are still at the scene trying to put out the fire. 21 fire engines were there at its peak!

At least one floor has collapsed.

It is believed that some dogs that were left in cars may have been killed.

Just awful and for it still to be going! So much fuel and presumably lighter fuel (as in shavings etc)

Seen a couple from here on the news who had got the boat over and went straight to the show so they have lost their car, luggage, passports, hotel and boat tickets and literally have the clothes they are standing in.

Feeling quite sick about the dog situation though. Why would you take a dog to a show that you know you will be leaving them in the car for? Seriously

goodness, I just saw this-how awful, thats a lot of cars lost and what a huge fire. I've never really considered fires in multi-storeys before, simply don't ever use them now.

Sorry about your car Kat, it would be massively difficult for me to be without a car so understand you being peed off, even while being relieved that noone was seriously hurt.

as for dogs left in cars, I don't know why people do it-how would any dog prefer to be left in a cold car, in a strange place for hours than at home?! poor dogs :'(

No worries, Kat :) If you still get stuck just shout! Definitely make today about shopping for you, insurance will pay anyway, if you're looking for the positives.

As for the dog, apparently a woman came into the McDonalds on the other side of the dock where people were being sent to wait and was distraught as her dog was in her car. Subsequent rumour suggests they'd only had it a day.

FB asking for persecution, I hope they mean prosecution. I think anyone that has left a dog in the car will be feeling more than guilt enough without a social media lynch mob after them.

It's an extraordinary feeling for us with the suggestion of 'what if', and I just cannot imagine what it is like for Kat and others affected.

Awful scenes. We live a few miles away over the water on the wirral and the black smoke was visible from this side. Several friends lost their cars.

Horse community here really rallied around to provide stabling and the horses either went home or to Aintree, who opened up for them.
Also hearing reports of dogs left in cars and it absolutely sickens me, but sadly doesn't surprise me.

Omg... why on earth would you lock your precious dogs in a car in a multi storey and go off and watch a horse show.. poor dogs.. am looking at my 2 dogs now.. thinking how I would never forgive myself if I had done that.. I never leave my dogs in a locked car.. I’ve done shows with my dogs.. but they are in a cage that I lock to my tow bar outside with a large cover over it.. but that’s in a field or outdoors arena
Poor dogs...

We've lost a car. Rather OHs pride and joy...

So glad I didn't go with my mum. She probably would have taken the dogs in the van. FWIW they would have been much happier 5 hours with a toilet break rather than being left home alone for the 5 hours of show+3 hours of travel time.

Mersey fire have also released a statement saying they did manage to rescue some dogs

Anything I've seen on fb suggests that only two dogs were involved, in the one car, and that they were both rescued safely.

Feel so sorry for the organisers and for those who lost their cars and possessions.

Fiona

To be fair, they had an emergency and they got every horse and all the people safely out and into good, secure stables not far away - that's quite good handling of an emergency really.

They couldn't have run it today - for one thing there would be no parking.

So sorry for all those that have lost cars. Someone I know did, and is remarkably relaxed about it. Usually a bit of a drama queen.

I really hope they got any dogs out. I think leaving dogs on a night that is renowned for fireworks is particularly stupid.
