Helloo,

I am after your experiences of wood pellet bedding, in particularly Liverpool wood pellets;

~ how many bags did you use to bed down and what size were they?

~ did you use them with or without matting?

~ how many bags did you need to top up with weekly once you had bed down?

Thank you

Em xx

I use them in some of the stables. All stables have rubber matting and I do not have deep beds as I take all droppings and wet out every day. I put two 15 kg bags in a large barrow and spray with the hose (must use a spray) for 40 seconds. They will fluff up in 10 - 20 minutes (faster is hot water is used). I put down 3 bags in a 12 x 12 stable and use between one and a half and three and a half bags a week to top up depending on how messy the horse is.

I have a 12x12 stable with matting. I started the bed with 10 x 15kg bags and I put a kettle of boiling water into each. I lift the droppings out each day and top up with 2 or sometimes 3 bags a week of dry pellets

I put 13 bags down to start (I like the number :) ) . They are usually 15kg bags.

A tonne of pellets generally lasts my two (very wet and dirty horses) 3 months. I don't really set the number of bags each week, I just throw down what the bed needs.

I could probably make them last all winter, but I like a deep bed as I find it keeps mine dryer and I hate tackling a sopping bed each morning.

(on straw I would use 5 bales a week and they would need 3 barrows min out each day - yuck!)

I use them on top of rubber mats, but I never see the mats as the bed is so deep.

I've used lwp for a few years now. My stable has rubber matting and I used 8 15kg bags to make my bed. I used a hose to wet them. I take the poo out everyday and only take the clumpy pee daily. The rest of the pee I mix through my bed. I use 1 bag a week and put that in pellet form. Occassionally I use 2 bags a week when I feel the bed needs it and again are put in dry. But that could be once every 2 months or so.
