Has anyone who has used both got any comments? I have always used LWP or Five Star but am thinking of changing to Megazorb (and ordering today). But Im hesitant to spend so much more if Megazorb is no better and I need to use the same amount as with LWP....

Help?
 
LWP every time. I have tried every type of flax/chopped straw out there and the wood pellets make a much nicer bed. They also dry out my cob's legs much better, and are SO much quicker to much out! Apart from the fact they are in smaller bags, so can store a lot more in a smaller space :)
 
Yes, I use both. I used megazorb for all the horses until it became too expensive. Now only two are on it. I like megazorb because you don't need to wet it. It is very light to handle, soft for the horses to lie on and extremely absorbent. I didn't like wood pellets as much when I first started using them, but now, since I have found a better way of fluffing them up, I prefer them to megazorb and they are cheaper. To fluff them up I place the bag in the stable and cut a 'U' shape slit. I pour in 1/4 bucket of very hot water. I use hot from the tap but a kettle is just as good. This fluffs them up much better than cold water as the steam seems to help. They are ready to spread in five minutes, though the longer you leave them the better.

I tried adding wood pellets dry, but it was a disaster. Just like a brand new j cloth, they need 'priming' first to unlock their absorbency.
 
I was on wood pellets and when I ran out towards the end of last winter topped up on Megazorb. At first i really liked it and it seemed to absorb well and the poo didn't get tangled in it. As the bed became more Megazorb and less pellet, I found it stuck in the feet, and the bed didn't smell as nice. Now back on wood pellets. I think though that adding a few bags of Megazorb to a pellet bed is fine, and it's probably the nicest bed I've had yet. Not doing it now because I can't really be bothered to go and buy bags of it. I think pellets are probably a bit cheaper.
 
I've used both and i think the wood pellets are better. Yes they take longer to get as fluffy as magazorb, but i dont mind that. Wood pellets are cheaper too.

Sorry to hijack slightly but that's interesting Wagtail. I found adding dry pellets better for my boy - the bed took longer to become soggy and looked and smelt better. However, I do know it doesn't work for everyone.
Back on topic, I planned to try Megazorb before wood pellets but supplies were patchy around here so I went with eggbox which I can no longer use (different muck disposal method) so am now on pellets and happy with them.

I know. It seems logical that it should work, but the beds were just awful. The dry pellets stuck to the poo and so lots got wasted and the beds looked dark and dirty rather than fluffy and light. I tried it twice, using different methods and on 6 different horses. It just didn't work for me. I must have been doing something wrong.

I'm really surprised at this as I hated Verdo and so did a few others, found I used more of them and they were no way near as good as five star (Eden) and LWP (nearly as good as five Star but still my second choice) I haven't tried any others. also I had to activate LWP and Verdo each time but found the five star ones were better going on dry. I used twice as much Verdo as I did Five star.

I used both a find LWP make a more stable, more absorbent bed that is easier to muck out. I use them on my wet box walker (to give you an idea she can easily grind shavings into black dust). This is without a doubt the best bedding, and I have tried literally everything.
 
Megazorb every time, miracle stuff!
I don't use it as a full bed but put a layer at the bottom of straw and it is incredible, ridiculously absorbent and soaks up a lot of the smell too. Used to use wood pellets (a variety of brands) both as a full bed and as a base layer, really couldn't get on with them as found they were just far too dusty and making both us and the horses ill - no matter how closely we stuck to the instructions.

I hated Verdo too! Dark & not terribly absorbent when compared to other lighter pellets ( the lighter the pellet the more absorbent they are!)
Another (ex) Five Star Fan here but am going to go Corley this year (my second favourite) as I didn`t like the lack of support by Eden for customers who had already paid for orders when Martin died suddenly :-( They used to drop ship for FS so had the customer base and emailed existing customers immediately saying that they could buy from them before anyone knew what was happening with Five Star :(
There is a lot of people out of pocket due to probate and Eden had an awful lot of business from FS previously!!
Lesson to be learned tho, ALWAYS pay by credit card!!!
 
I dont think thats fair on Eden, Milkmaid. They were the suppliers to Five Star, yes, but were not five star themselves. I phoned Eden just after Martin's passing and they explained at the time that they didnt want the family to lose out on customers going elsewhere. I too am out of pocket at present, and Mrs Kift wrote an email to me on 23 August saying she would have everything sorted in 2 weeks!!! Well ... that didnt happen. But Im not annoyed at Eden, I think they have done Martin proud and I have just ordered my second pallet from them through their online store.
