I am going to have a go with these this winter, so can anyone advise me:

- how many bags are required to set up a 1/2 bed with rubber mats

- how many bags per week are needed to top up for a 'clean' horse

I am debating which pallet size to buy, so any info gratefully received x

I used about 10 bags to set up in a large stable - with some old bliss type bedding left at the front (Too tight to throw it all away!) I used plenty as I much prefer a deep bed with this kind of bedding - and it seems to work much better.

I used about 6 10kg bags per month - so roughly 1 one week, 2 the next etc. I'm sure lots of people will say it too, but it is important to keep on top of these beds - if the wet starts coming to the surface (more than the wee 'clump' on top), spreading, or the bed starts looking darker, chuck some more in pronto, as it seems to get wet/dark very quickly once you reach the 'critical mass'

Sorry - not much help on this one as bought by the bag from feed merchant e.g. 20 at a time. If you know you'll get on with the bedding, and like the brand, I'd get as much as you can store - better value for full pallet rather than half. When I bring in for the winter, I'll get a full pallet, which should last me about 5 months I think, if I use the same amount of bedding as at old yard.

When I used it, the instructions said 10 bags - I used 8 to start with and needed a step ladder to get in the bed (my boxes are 4m by 4m so pretty big). I subsequently put 3 in and got them quite wet (litterally spraying them with hosepipe), then three in without water to get the right balance of chippings and pellets ready to absorb water.

Clean horse one bag a week - no water added to existing bed. I only took out the poo and maybe 1/2 shovel full of wet a day, in the worst patch, the rest was mixed in.

Definitely worth buying by the pallet - even if you don't use it up it'll last to the following winter and lots of the cost is delivery so the more you can get delivered the cheaper each bag is.

It's fab bedding so economical and comfy and so quick to muck out. Smell has not been a problem which is what I was most worried about. I started with 6 sacks and soaked them then just add a bag a week dry.

I have a discount code for Liverpool Wood Pellets if you want to try it....its only 4%, but every penny counts....pm me if you want it :-)

eta I just had a delivery of 2 pallets to last my 3 over the winter....

Order in plenty of time:( Also be aware they have changed to Balcas Brites.

Not too delighted with my last order where they didn't deliver for nearly two weeks and what they have delivered is surprisingly large chips of wood. I'm not finding it anything like as economical as it used to be.
