livery - a bit different

after lots of moaning about livery threads I thought I'd put one up in praise of mine.

It doesnt look that flash, we dont have a walker or xc course or a flash set of jumps. However, I have a YO who is very accomodating, all year turnout with individual if needed, late night checks (and rug changes whenever required!), fantastic unlimited quality straw and hay, YO who will muck out for me as a favour if he knows I am busy and my horse is looked after exactly as I request. We have absentee owners that pay by direct debit-they dont come up for months and their horses are given the same attention as everyone elses, without fail (which of course they should be!).

so for all those great YOs, YMs and grooms out there-thankyou, have a great Christmas

I agree!!!! I have the most fantastic yard. Just me, the YO and another very nice livery. All horses are sweet and good natured and easy to handle so no probs if doing anyone a favour. Standard of care is excellent. Out every day but checked non and brought in if very wet; fantastic school with mirrors, horses checked last thing at night and rerugged if applicable, hay and bedding never skimped on. My horse is treated no different to the YO's own horses so I am very, very lucky.

I think I deserve it after some of the horrors of yards I have been to in the past though.

I dont understand why someone wouldnt come up for months to see their horse(s). However im glad that youve got a great yard, using my grans saying, they seem to be as common as hens teeth

I have praise for my YO as well. Always very accommodating to the horses needs. The horses welfare always comes first. Then the owners needs. We have a split our turnout in to 2. Some horses are turned out overnight, to accommodate their particular requirements and other horses are turned out in the day. As DIY we all take it in turns following a rota to bring in and turn out each others horses. A system thought up by our YO. I feel that this system is working very weel. Charlie is thriving by living out at night.

well one works abroad, another off shore and the other seems to have lost interest-but the horses are well looked after and paid for.

Good for you praising your yard. It can be hard for YO's as well and a few words of thanks go a long way!

I also have a fab YO and yard plus the groom is fantastic,they look after our horses with so much care and attention i can't praise them enough.

Nothing is too much trouble and they are horsey people not the sort that play at running a yard

All the yard staff work very hard and our horse is recovering from an accident and they have really looked after her so we don't have to worry when we are not there.

I love my yard too! Again it's not flash, we have an outdoor 20x40m menage with a few jumps. YO is accomodating as she can be. Is very friendly, no stupid yard rules and everyone is allowed to get on with their own horses in peace

I'm on a great yard too. It's so good its never been advertised even though its hidden away, its always full and everyone there has only managed to get a stable through a friend there, if that makes sense. Nineteen boxes and five grass liveries so a lovely size. Similar to OP's in that its not got flash facilities but sensible safe turnout, big all weather arena and liveries and staff who don't tell you what to do but who are always happy to help when you need it. No acting like the world's going to come to an end if you forget to poo pick the arena and such like. Friendly YM with lots of horse sense who is always as accommodating as can be of everyones own individual needs. YO who fixes everything immediately and mostly stays out of the way. Honestly too good to be true! I do have a theory though that the best yards do tend to be run by a manager and not by the actual owners although I'm sure there are exceptions.
