My yard owners are a total nightmare!
Apologies for this, but OH just says "tell her to get lost" and goes back to what he's doing.. lol.. its long

Yard is run by 2 sisters. Parents bought them the land & barns & they converted them. They're not *horsey* although like to think they know what they are talking about & times and are generally not very hands on.
Yard is pure DIY; no assistance whatsoever unless YO-J is down 1st thing in which case she chucks feeds/nets over.
This was a temporary measure until I found somewhere more suitable for us; needed to move pony asap as owners wanted a very quick turnaround on her sale and the yard she was kept at prior to the sale was too far for me to travel to.

When I moved on; I was told there was all year turn out, unless weather was VERY bad. This hasn't turned out to be true; if fields are slightly wet/weather is damp we're told to stay in. At times the YO's say no turn out, then change thier mind 2 hours later but say they must come in if raining. They don't seem to realise people don't have the time to be driving back & forth on their say so and just expect you to do it.. when you raise this YO-J gets arsey, defensive and walks away. Fantastic!

When I moved on; I was told they *preferred* you to use their 'hay' which is baled as hayledge and is very damp. Its sort of between 'proper' stuff & dry hay. I said proper stuff sent pony nuts & I'd have to see how she went. They agreed and said they'd reassess if it didnt work out for her.

It didnt. She went nuts on it.

I raised this & they denied ever saying I could use hay, whined about places to store it & made excuses. In the end, I said it was on my vets recommendation (not strictly true) & I started looking for elsewhere. They finally agreed I could keep 2 or 3 bales at a time in the storage trailer for the haylege. They wouldn't buy it in for me; I'd have to do it myself.
I feel victimised by YO-M who *every* time she sees me asks "Are you still feeding that crap?" "when are you stopping feeding it, its crap and no good for her?" etc. My standard answer is "when the vet says I can stop" to which her reply is now "ignore the vet- what do they know? they're only doing it so when she coughs you've got another bill to pay them."
I now avoid being there when she is, or avoid speaking to her. Its getting uncomfortable for me to be there when she is.

Basically, I'm upset because I feel dictated to as to what I can feed my pony. I know her better than the YOs do, and know whats right for her & me. Haylege makes her stressy, fizzy and impossible at times. Why should I have her that way when shes so much easier to do on hay?
The turn out situation is getting silly too, if you do something 'wrong' a powertrip starts & the horses are punished by being forced in-not fair IMO.

They also rent smaller sections of the land that people have errected stables on; these people pay LESS in rent and have MORE freedom. They do not have to follow the turn out rules & worming programme we do. This seems unfair.
They have just agreed to let a 12 year old child bring her Christmas present onto the yard. A recently broken 3 YO mare that has never cantered. Child has been riding 12 months at a riding school. Its a total accident waiting to happen & they expect other liveries to help out/be responsible for the kids ponies..

I'm on a massive mission to find a new yard ASAP, am I being unrealistic in wanting:

24/7 summer turnout if I want it.
Some degree of winter turn out; even if its alternate days or something..
The freedom to feed what I see fit for her.
a school.

Any suggestions as to yards in the Manchester/Cheshire border area (Glazebrook/Culceth etc) would be gratefully recieved! I know I sound like a whinging cow; but I'm really a lovely livery

Cookies if you read it all!

Get out !!!! they sound a nightmare. I can understand the worming regime but none of the rest of it. can not recommend on places as in wrong area

all the best though

It is horrible, I can deal with the being whined at; I just don't think its fair my pony suffers because of them.

YO-M said to me last week.. "Why don't you fizz her up a bit; shes too laid back"..

HELLO? Have spent since September trying to get her to be more relaxed, not stressing about getting a crack with a stick & get some weight off her..

Thing is; if she WAS fizzy & nuts.. they'd whine she was trashing fields/stables & was a pain! I can't win!

I would see if I could rent some land somewhere; but have no one to drag with me & would much prefer a yard for her with a school & other people/ponies about..

This story sounds very similar to me with my past livery nightmare experiences.

It's very stressful and ultimately no matter what you try to do the owners always have the upper hand as they own the place.

I'd MOVE. No point stressing about it. And your requests/criteria sound perfectly reasonable to me. Good luck in finding somewhere much better (there are some great places out there believe me!)

I'm ringing round as we speak; there are spaces in 2 weeks at a Riding School..

Its 15ish min from home, but I'm dubious about access to facilities because of it being a school!?

What I would say is - Do a thorough search of all possibilities in the area - Try to remain objective and not just jump at the first door that shows you a way out.

I have jumped to other things in the past because I was so desperate to leave. I should have considered things better on those occasions. I suggest: Take your time, draw up a list of your requirements and mark down which yards meet or don't meet these.

I know you are, I totally understand. But take your time, it will be best for you and your horse in the long-term. You'll get out when you have the best place you can find and you'll be pleased you did all your searches and worked things out being objective if you can. Perhaps discuss with a friend who can see this from a non-emotional perspective too??

Mum's just said the same thing! lol, I'm 21 and still asking my mummy if she thinks I'm right!

Decided to ring the school; ask some questions, have a look and see how I feel whilst ringing round other places.

my main things are turn out, somewhere to ride, and being able to buy my own hay/shavings etc in.

Good luck with your search - make sure you are picky and ask lots of questions! Let us know where you go and how you're doing!

from a YO's point of view - MOVE!!!
it doesnt sound a pleasent yard at all and they dont sound like good YO's !!!
Good luck in your search - i would be tempted to put some wanted ads up online to find somewhere asap.

Rocky, I'm going for a look at Croft Riding School tomorrow evening.. *Eeek* (Have also PM'd you)

It is horrible, the more I think about it, the more I don't want to go up and spend time with my pony.

It sounds like a nightmare!

Do you have local saddlery, countrywide stores etc near u - they almost always have adverts for liveries etc in them.
