Hi,

Sorry in advance if I have posted this in the wrong section!

I am now in the lucky position where I can once again have a horse in my life, I sold my last one 6 years ago due to marriage and commitments. The husband is now an ex and my working commitments have changed to give me far more flexibility that i had 6 years ago.

So I am after some advice from anyone that would be kind enough to help me:

1. I live and work in Birmingham city center and would like to find a livery yard that is no more than 45 mins drive away (outside of rush hour). I will need to have the option of part livery aswell on the yard, along with it having at least an our door arena. Does anyone know of any yards and what sort of cost would I be looking at for part livery service including basics hay/haylage and straw?

2. At the moment I am holding off 'horse hunting' until I have found a livery yard....is this a sensible thing to do? I realise I might have to pay to reserve my place at a yard.

Many thanks
michelle

there is a whole host of them about 30 minutes out in an area called Barr beacon.

Crook Cottage Stables - where i am (currnetly 2 spaces)
Wrens nest
Dairy farm
Johnson's Farm
and more

You are very welcome to drop into our yard and chat with Yard Manager - she will be able to give you contact for all the other yards too.

PM me if you want more info :)

which side of birmingham do you live? if you are central you could go in all directions? do you want to hack? or more comp based? and what sort of livery are you looking for? and what sort of facilities do you think you would like? i have a couple of liveries that live in central birmingham and drive to get the facilities and the hacking. ultimately the choice is yours you just need to get looking. Good luck.

I think you are very sensible to find a home for the horse before you start the buying process. Research local yards and if you find one you like you could maybe offer a 'holding' deposit for a space.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for all of your replies, and also the PM that came through!

In regards to facilities I want to head down the competition route, back into my days of showjumping from 10 years ago!! So will also need somewhere to keep a 2 horse lorry as well........my bank account is going to seriously hurt this year I can feel it!!

I live right in the center of Birmingham city center, and have an office about 10 mins walk from the flat - so I am pretty flexible which direction I head out to.

Definitely want all year turnout though as I spent a short amount of time on a yard where I couldnt turn out in the winter and the horse at the time was climbing the walls!!

Will follow up on the details you have been kind enough to provide!

Thanks again
x
