I`m at the end of my tether lol
I both love and hate my yard. the riding is great, its not bitchy and there arent many people BUT my horses seem to be the guinea pigs for testing new horses out, everytime a newbie comes they get put in the field with mine and it results in my horses getting booted around, roxy has finally recovered from a shoulder injury, i had a phone call an hour ago saying i need to come up farm as roxy now has another injury which is more than likely from a kick she`s got a puncture wound also....last year it was Ayla getting knocked about.
i dont mind sharing fields it comes with the territory but it only seems to be mine that do have be moved about to share with the new horses, everyone else has own fields and they are always top priority even though me and my OH are up there twice a day everyday, we are the only riders on the yard yet we`re put in a field furthest from yard, there is a couple up the yard who havent been to see their horses since March they visit once a week during winter !
If other people was in this position would you move?
I have found a new yard, the only thing is they only do full livery, it will work out roughly the same price wise except i`d be doing less work...i like my one to one with my horses but i also like lie ins lol there are no other diy yards around me. Do you think i should stay put where the girls are settled or move?
I know there is a pecking order with horses but i dont think my YO respects us or even gives a damn...she wants to put 8 horses in the winter field with mine yet another owner gets to keep her 4 in any field she wants for winter with no other horses? hardly fair.
Lots of choc for anyone who gets through this xxxx:D

Surely any decent livery yard would separate new horses by electric fencing or a neighbouring field until they settle in? My poor horse is always at the bottom of the herd and often gets picked on so I know how you feel (especially after having a £2000 vets bill for a kick on the hock!). I left my last yard after I counted 11 horses in the one field one night when there were others with just a few in. There are always better livery yards around and you must be spending a lot of money at this one if the costs are on par with a full livery yard. If your present yard owner wants your business, speak to her about your concerns - if she's not interested, move.

obviously i don't know the complete ins and outs of your situation, but if it were me i would first approach the yard owner, then if the situation continued i would move them away ASAP, and make an effort to spend the same ammount of time, even if the other place was full livery.

it's not fair to use yours as guinea pigs, and ideally new horses should be isolated from the others until they are put into the field which they will stay in permanently.

hope this helps!

Move. Every time a new horse arrives it is put in with yours? Immediately?

Ever thought of infectious diseases? Rare i know but possible. I'd be off like a shot.

I have asked umpteem times for them not go in a certain field as they always injure themselves in it, she said well your going to have to share with others you know they`re sharing in what ever field theyre in so i dont actually get what she mens lol, i dont have a problem sharing I have a problem with my horses being guinea pigs and being shifted about to suit others needs. When we moved to the yard the girls had to be kept in for 3 days and were put in a field on their own, they had to be wormed and had to show passports and proof of incolulations (spelling) since we moved another 6 horses have come, none have had to be kept in or anything they`re just put in the field with mine and left to it. The newest horse is a 17h+ shire cross who hasnt been kept with other horses for over 6 years because she`s a bully, YO`s plan is to put her in with mine next week, if she goes up against Ayla, ayla wont have anything left for her, she`s got the typical skinny arab legs and one boot and she`s broken :(

The full livery will be £260 a month per horse, includes bedding, 2 feeds, haylage, turnout and muck out, standing for farrier, vet, clipping etc and has a school which i dont have at the mo`, is also closer to home, my current yard for the winter will cost approx £190 per horse, but with full livery i`d be saving £40 a week petrol as its closer to home and they do the morning turn out..... the person who owns the yard I learnt to ride with years ago so i know she`s accomplished and would trust her with the girls....

Sounds like its a no brainer hun! Don't be put off by the "full livery means you don't love your horse as much" brigade. It doesn't mean you can't spend as much time with your horse, and there's nothing to stop you mucking out to help out now and again anyway! I work for an airline, and am away a lot. Before I met my wonderful husband who does the horses when I'm away, I had my horse on full livery, and I think I spent much more "quality time" with her, rather than all the stable chores! We have our own yard for our three now, but I still miss the full livery sometimes! If its a good livery yard, go for it!

Yeah anything is shoved in with mine with the exception of one who dumped on the people who normally share with me.... they yard contract clearly states all new horses are to be quarantined for 48-72 hours due to risk of infection and so on....but ours were the only ones to be kept in everyone else comes and goes as pleases...

Reading your post I would have thought with the size of your current yard vet bills moving yards will over all save you lots long term. Good luck

Check out new place carefully - frying pan and fire springs to mind (I've done a few yard moves ;)).

But, if my horse was being the guinea pig each time then I'd have a word with the owner, if they don't do anything then I'd move.

I can understand the ignored horses being closer to the yard. The YO will have a duty of care towards them :)

Speak to the YO and say that you arent prepared to have new horses put with yours any longer and can you please either have your own paddock or put yours in with something you know isnt going to give you a vet bill. If you dont get any joy then move before you end up with broken bones or worse.

Stand up for yourself or go somewhere else.

Move if the new yard is more suitable....

That is why I am on a Full livery only yard, 10 stables and turnout of 2 per field only! YO very strict on field buddying and would not dream of doing what your YO is doing, very irresonsible if you ask me.

Check out all other places near you i think.
I wouldn't be happy with that, more for the reasons of infectious diseases etc. My yard got strangles last year and we missed out on the whole summer, no leaving th eyard at all, now I get pretty stressy over where new horses are!

Where abouts are you? Your fulll livery price sounds a bargain! I certainly wouldn't be happy in your situation. Perhaps there are other more outspoken people on your current yard that the YO doesn't want to cross but she feels you are softer touch? This is not a criticism at all - you shouldn't have to be bolshy in order to be treated fairly. Make sure you check out new yard thoroughly but sounds good to me!

i would move it sounds horrible them doing that to your horse she could really hurt herself
i know on my yard we keep the new horse seperate for a few days then gradualy introduced to the rest of the group and also go's out with the top dog of the field (aka math haha)
then they are told the day they can put them in with the group so we all have time to put boots on ectt and they tend to run around then eat and there fine i think if someone just put a horse in the field i would go mad!

You are not happy, love, move will be best y/o dosnt care or has thought your not bothered or asked or listened to you at all move were you will be thought of, sometimes when you add diy prices up then add your time , diesil, etc it can be cheaper im paying £35 per week diy incl.hay and straw and i can get part livery over five days £50 , so really just the same only i have more time to enjoy horse hope all works out for you , im sure it will or you can try chatting to your yard owner see what she says/offers .

I echo everyone else. I moved last year after horses being turned out with mine without me being told. I'm now on a yard where my pony is happy, the yard owner would never DREAM of putting anything else in her field and I'm a lot happier and stress free over it!

Move. End of. Someone did that to me and turfed a new horse out without telling anyone and I ended up with my horse damaging a tendon and spending the entire summer on box rest. Think of it as that you have had plenty of warnings and move before something really does happen.

Move move move. make sure that new horse isn't in with yours if you can't go before he arrives, that's so dangerous, especially if they already know it is a bully. one came to ours having lived alone for 10 years. she got a field to herself and was carefully introduced to the others she was going to share with.
New place sounds far better and look at the new rugs you can buy with the money you will save :D

Move. Before the 17h+ shire cross gets here. It is disrespectful and dangerous for them to use your horses as guinea pigs for any nutter that moves in to bully the life out of. I'd let the YO know exactly WHY you are moving as well before you go.

From what you have said I would move, I would not be happy at all about that at all, not fair on your horse or you. If you will be paying the same for full livery then go for it, I do not think that just because you have full livery you would not get that me time with your horse, in fact you may even have more time to spend together if full livery is done. Good luck :)

Seems your YO doesn't give a toss about you or your horses,so move girl as it sounds like no matter what you say or do she isn't going to take any notice of you, as it sounds to me your face doesn't fit in,even though you may be the nicest person in the yard. for some reason she doesn't like you:(:(:(:(

Thanks guys, we`re going up to have a look at the yard saturday.... its a stud and livery and as i know the girl i know what sort of standards she has :)
I am a bit of a push over but my OH isnt if he doesnt like anything he will say.
I thought YO was moving the ignored horses closer to keep an eye on them but she doesnt ever check on them, i check for cuts, pick feet out etc and all last winter i supplied other people horses with feed and hay...stupid i know but not seeing a horse suffer because their owners are a bunch of divs!!!
fingers crossed for Sat :)
Girls are being kept in until Saturday when new big bully horse is put into field where we were then i`ll just chuck mine in what ever field is free, probably pee off YO but everyone else chops and changes and has pick of a field:D

I honestly thinks its because of the girls, she doesnt like arabs or cb`s and loves telling me what stubborn beats CB`s are and they`re no good for riding...when ever they've had an injury and I`ve asked her to have a look and give her opinion on wether to get a vet out she says its fine no need, i`ve always had the vet out anyway and horses have always needed treatment, the last being staples!
