I have a friend that keeps her horse on Part livery and she has got a note in this months bill saying that if she pays buy cheque she must pay in advance.

is this normal??

Surely if she gives them the cheque on the due date that is paying in time?? its down to them to cash it?

OO and also she gets a weekly charge added on the bill if it is not paid buy the 7th day. If she has givent the cheque and it hasnt cleared buy the 7th day then she still gets charged!!

Just pay cash (proper money) on time and the yard owner cant say nowt or add charges, at the end of the day whats written on the cheque and goes into an account is supposed to be cash anyway, society has just managed to turn it into numbers on a bank statement or credit card and screw everyone with charges to even fart, pay cash and have done with it.

everyone at my yard pays in advance, if she is already paying at the end of the month then paying by chq puts her 5 weeks in arrears before YO gets a bean so i agree, cash or advance

The thing is if the cheque bounces then the YO is out of pocket for charges and potentially livery costs aswell.

I think this is reasonable.

maybe the YO has been given a chq tht has bounced recently and has learnt its bit too risky, hence wanting to get chqs in early

I have paid my bill for feb plus for all extras that I had in Jan. We always pay in advance and I pay by credit card!

I keep my horse at my friend's house but I always pay her in advance (in cash). That is what I would expect people to do to be honest.

As a yard owner i always require payment in advance, believe me when you have been knocked a few times it does make you wary! I require payment on the 1st of every month for the month in advance, ie on feb 1st you pay from 1st feb upto end of feb. This is very common I dont know anyone who does it differently. If paying by cheque i do ask if possible to present me with cheque a few days early so it is cleared for the 1st of the month, A written cheque is worth nothing until it has cleared & the quickest most current accounts clear is 3 days. I also requrie a months notice either way so nobody is ever out of pocket really.

as a yard owner we always ask for payment in advance and it doesnt matter if it is cheque cash or direct debit...however the livery is liable if the cheque bounces so they all know that if there is a probelm so that noone gets charged then a few days grace is acceptable. as long as no one takes the mick we are reasonably happy...also if people are a bit brasssic we dont mind then spillitting the livery down to make it more managable for them.

I pay by cheque in advance, but as my employer is rubbish at paying me on time YO is good abt giving me a few days grace
