Our yard is DIY, and I've always had my "big horse" and the two shetties as seperate rents, i.e. the little ones together cost the same as the big one (£10 a week plus haylage). In October one of the shetlands will have to be pts, so I am wondering how to broach the subject of a potential rent reduction. YO is good, and technically it's DIY though he always does all the winter haylage. So I don't want to sound cheeky, but then again I don't really think one little shetland should be costing the same as a full sized horse! And every little helps. Would it be cheeky do you think?

She has quite nasty arthritis in her hocks and last winter was a struggle, she lost loads of weight and was very sore even rugged, haylage, hard feed and bute. She is more comfortable in the "warmer" weather, and her bute is reduced to 1/4 of a sachet (half on colder days) but it's not fair to keep her going through another one. She's 22 and I've had her since a foal.

I know it probably does sound a bit mercenary thinking about the rent at the moment, but I've had since March to think about this and I'm kind of "used" to the idea now! (If you can get used to that kind of thing.) Though I'm sure it will be different once the time comes.

So sorry, tough decision, but you are making the right choice for her quality of life.
If tis grass lvierym then I;d excpet it to reduce, if its a stable they share, then not
Is it really just £10 plus haylage for horse!
Are there others wiht small ones, do they pay less?

Yes not bad is it! They all live out, and as there's just myself, YO and one new livery I have no idea what the protocol would be for little 'uns.

Aww sounds like you are doing the right thing. Wish my livery was only £10 for my daughters 13hh pony instead of £35 !!
