Looking for some advise...
....Been given livery bill....
What would you expect to pay??
Horse on DIY already paying £30 per week (No Electric)long story...
suppling own hay,bedding,feed
Went on holiday YO said would look after horse... came back and have been charged an extra £18 per day.
Horse not turned out, or groomed?
and been charged £18 per day to give hay to grass livery already paying £18 per week for .....
is it just me???? what would you expect to be charged?

Why didnt you discuss how much it would cost and what care would be given by the YO before you went away?

Are you saying she charged you £18 a day to give hay to your horse, and im not sure because of the wording of your post, but are you saying your horse wasnt turned out at all either? so who mucked it out, fed and watered it?

£2 per feeding? This is what I was charged per feeding when YO fed my horse when he was on summer grass livery (I supplied his feed). Its not much more effort to lob some hay in?!
I'm not surprised you are having a rant at £18 a day!!!

She said dont worry will give good price !!

It was 2 horses one stabled one grass livery.
Stabled one was fed, mucked out, watered but I supplied feed and bedding.
Horse put in school whilst mucked out.
Just wondered what is a fair price.

On an ad hoc basis I wouldn't be surprised to be charged £10 a day for a fully stabled horse. To check a grass livery and throw some hay over probably £2 a time.
I think £18 is on the expensive side, but if you hadn't agreed a figure in advance I'm not sure you have much say in the matter tbh

So she has mucked out, fed, watered one, and fed the other in the field, ok its a little bit pricey but if you didnt agree on an exact price before you went, then i guess you cant really complain. To some people that would be a fair price!
Also regarding your horse not being turned out, was it supposed to be?

I agree that you should with hindsight have agreed a set price before hand, but do also agree with you OP that you are being ripped off - £18 is way over the top - ie £126 a week That's more than most full livery charge for a week and doesn't even include feed/bedding or basic rent!

Your YO is having a laugh and I would most definitely be disputing it and if it couldn't be changed, thinking of leaving that yard. She is ripping you off.

The freelance grooms at our yard charge £10 per day to do the DIYs, so £18 does seem a rip off. However givin that you did not agree a price up front you realy can't complain, just put it down to a lesson learned for the future.

Thing is couldnt pin her down on a price before hand ...she just said dont worry!!
Questioned her about it and she wouldnt budge.
Certainly lesson learned :-(

£18 a day for doing two horses, feed muck out & turn out one...Chuck hay at & check other I think thats a good price..I was paying someone £10 a day to check & hay field kept horse twice a day the last time I had a holiday or was it £18 each per day??

I read it as £18 per day PER HORSE - which I am sorry, I repeat is a complete rip off and I would personally be steaming (although also would have agreed beforehand

At our yard it is an extra £8 per day per horse for full livery. That includes horses bringing in and out, feet picked out, rugs changed, full muck out, haylage done, water buckets scrubbed and refilled and feeds given. That is in addition to the normal livery rate of £25 per week. Straw is included in the basic livery. We pay a flat rate of £20 per month for ad lib haylage per horse in winter and supply our own feed.

In the summer when the horses are out YO doesn't charge for checking them and puttin fly repellent on, as we do the same for her when she is away.

I was away for a week and so YO mucked her out for the week (shes norm on part livery not DIY) i was charged an extra £10 for the week (not the day) so paid 75 instead of 65!!! you were most definatly ripped off... you need to find a nice person who wont take advantage...! also if your horse didnt go out that means it would have been mucked out twice in the day... quite alot of work (not £18 worth tho!)
