Following on from a post I read yesterday where a horse on livery was ridden by a trainee member of staff without the owners permission and then when the trainee had an nasty accident they made a claim against the owner as well as the yard (can't find it now).......

Anyway, I'm taking my new horse to a new yard and although I've never had a contract before I think it's a good idea.

I'm not moving to the new yard for about 3 weeks so I'll call to see if they have a standard agreement but if they don't what kind of things should a contract include ?

Mine had stuff like if you damage things to replace them, 1 months notice, your responsible for anyone you bring up, just that type of stuff really.

My livery contract goes along the line of:
- horses and owners details (horses includes allergies, vices)
- my y/o stating no responsibilty of any harm/damage to possession or people whilst on land
-insurance (3rd party) is owners responsibility
-damage to yard will be paid by owner
- bills to be paid month in advance within a week of reciept
- if 3 months worths of bills are not accounted for - horse to be sold to make up funds
-one month notice of termination
-riding, instruction, equissage and other services are available by arrangement only and are charged seperately
-hat and footwear requirements
-no smoking premises
-car parking rules
-the right to call out the vet
-gate locking times
-strangers on premises.

It seems long but everybody knows where they stand and we are a very happy yard. The y/o compiled these and allowed us some input
