Hi everyone,

I have just started full-time work and I am moving to Godalming in Surrey with my 2 event horses soon. I was wondering whether anyone knows of a good competition yard I could base them at, on part livery?

I have found a few places towards Sussex, but I think that's a bit far for me to go every day. Also a lot of the places around Guildford seem seriously expensive, so I'm not really sure where to look.

Thank you :-)

Thank you missparis, I did call them and speak to someone... they were going to get back to me with whether or not they do part livery but I didn't hear back from them. I will try them again tomorrow!

Star, thank you for the recommendation!

My OH runs Upper House Farm Stables, the yard Star mentioned - we're just outside Godalming, a very short trip from Munstead and Stilemans. Andy's on 01483 208 126. If there's no answer, leave a message and someone will call you back.

Good luck with the search!

I've kept horses at Farm stables, Thursley for 4/5 years now, the yard manager is brilliant, takes good care of the horses and always around to help. There's loads of hacking around incl. long gallop tracks, hill training and hunt jumps as well as our own private hacking. Also a jump field and a newly resurfaced flood lit arena. Someone is always up to something on the yard wether its going to a show/ schooling or having a lesson and the atmosphere is very friendly. The yard managers called Sam, her phone number is 07799370570

Another vote for Molly Key, she is extremely thorough and has evented up to 4*, has indoor and outdoor schools and excellent visiting dressage trainer. Horses kept in 5* luxury and she rides beautifully too if you need yours exercised at all. PM me if you need contact details

Another vote for this one! I kept my eventers there for a while before we moved and cannot recommend her highly enough! We also stabled our horses there overnight when I came down to compete at Munstead.

I didn't realise there were so many options aorund Godamling! I thought Lisa McAlpine was predominantly a dressage yard though so not sure that would be a good fit for someone wanting to event - though it is a lovely yard.

We are too far away as we are in Dorking, but wave when you do get down here. My yard has a lot of people on it who are eventing, albeit at the lower levels so there is now a large crowd of riders and hangers on (I am currently in the latter category till next season!) - its always nice to know people at events. We also go to Merristwood a LOT! which you will of course be competing at being only down the road!

Having had a horse at Lisa's yard for 3 weeks before we moved I can only say that turnout us extremely limited. My 3yr old really couldn't cope with 2 hours a day if she was lucky, and 24 hour stabling most of the time amid promises that she would be going out the next day.

i went to a yard recently that was literally 3 minutes from Munstead - I have to say that it was the most beautiful yard that I've seen for a long time... Rolling parkland, P&R fenced paddocks, horse walker, olympic sized outdoor school and HUGE indoor school - indoor barn for the horses, and cross country course around the woods.

Unfortunately I don't know if they do livery there, but it's currently run by a czech eventer who has all his horses there. Maybe worth a visit to see if they'd take you? I think it was something like Sunnywood Farm, or Sunny something!!

Little Burgate Farm is in Milford run by Dee Redman nice yard :)

Almost...Dee Renmant...and in Hascombe really rather than Milford, but she does event, as do 2 others on the yard, got gallops (which are invaluable through the winter)no road work, direct hacking onto hydons ball, 2 schools, 1 for flatwork and one with the jumps set up. Flexible livery options available from grass to diy, to assisted, to part and full. Superbly run, a very calm and professional lady, lots of turnout, individual as well as groups of geldings or mares, horses are always very happy there as am I...trainers welcome, no silly rules about where you get your hay/straw/bedding from, which farrier or vet you use etc etc...everyone gets along well. Highly recommend...PM me if you want any more info or numbers...live in Hascombe..so know all yards mentioned by others x

Hi Sarah, does Little Burgate Farm have an indoor school? And do you know if the soil for turnout is sand or clay?

Have you ever been to October Farm?

Thank you for your advice!

Sounds like my idea of heaven! :)

There are tons! google these:
Clasfords (sp?)
Willow View Farm
Williow Farm Stud
Higher Park Farm
Parwood Equestrian Centre
There are so many more just can't remember anymore lol

Megan most of those are chobham which is 45mins or more away!

Op I know Meras stables in Shamley Green have space for part or full. I think its mostly dressage but seems very nice.

And if you are in Godamling you definately want to stay on that side of Guildford...and not get caught in the pretty awful traffic around the town...

I don't know if Frensham Manor is near you or not but that has lovely facilities...? YO is Linda, not sure who runs the yard now tho.

Hi Gracie

Not been to October farm, looks very nice, though thursley the other side of the A3 if my geography serves me right ;-)

Mearas also a nice yard but absolutely no outside trainers allowed...depends if you want to use either of the ladies based there or not..

October Farm has a beautiful yard. If I recall there is an indoor school and a large outdoor arena too. The hacking for fitness work is brilliant as you are straight out the gate onto Hankley Common and just across the road from Thursley Common. Lots of wide sandy tracks, and hills too. Not sure exactly how much turnout they have but think that they have/used to have a horsewalker.

Thundry Farm has good facilities - run by I think Christine Shoobrook. I think that they have vacancies as I'm sure I've seen a sign outside.

Hi everyone

Thank you for all of the suggestions! I started this thread a couple of months ago and following advice received I've moved the horses to Farm Stables with Sam. I am really happy there. The horses have settled in brilliantly and Sam is fantastic. I would highly recommend it to anyone else looking!

Thanks again
