I am about to buy a new horse which is a nice Quarter Horse Stallion but can not keep him at my local yard as do not have stallion facillaties. Does anyone have stabling/grazing suitable for a stallion anywhere around the east leeds area i also work in castleford so anywhere near there would also be fine, cant travel to far as want the horse on DIY so need to get to it before work in a morning. I am based in swillington/garforth area and travel through methly to whitwood nr castleford for work.
I dont have a big budget so looking for Cheap DIY livery with acess to hay and straw if not included inlivery cost. I'm also happy to work for my livery on a weekend and early mornings etc, i am a good stable hand groom, hard grafter and experienced horse woman.
I would appreciate any help you guys can provide me with as need to move quickly on this as the horse needs to be moved now as owner has lost her land and needs the horse sold. I will also consider temporarily keeping the horse in while gelded if finding him suitable livery as a stallion isn't possible as hes a young horse and i don't require him as a stud would just be a shame to geld him if i don't have too as hes fine horse and would make a lovely stud down the line after ive broken him in as a western pleasure / trail horse.

DH hun, you'll have a job to find livery for a stallion. They need such specialist management if escapes, accidents, accidental pregnancies etc are to be avoided. I understand that he's a lovely horse but tbh the quality of life that non-breeding stallions have can be very poor, ie no turnout, no company, ulcers, stereotypical behaviours etc etc. Why not have him gelded then you would have many many more options?

Am quite happy to have him gelded as i don't like to keep horses in am very natural in the way i keep my horses, problem is he can't be gelded where he is as they aren't able to keep him while its done and the few yards ive asked around so far won't even take him whil;e its done this is why i am appealing to the greater knowledge out there in the hope someone may have some private gazing/stabling i can keep him at even short term while i have him gelded.
As he is a good boy being a quarter horse hes so laid back even when stabled next to mares

You should find somewhere - we have a 3year old colt and a 2 year old colt living out with some of 2 year old geldings. At the moment all is fine as he has not yet worked out what his bits are for and our mares are kept completely seperate. However next year he will have to come in and live in a stallion field which we will set up for him. It will be fenced to 6 ft and have his own stables in it. He may be laid back at the moment but his hormones could kick in at any time and it is too risky with mares around.

You need a good yard who understand the issue with keeping entires, not a DIY livery yard with no idea. It is too risky and you could open yourself up for all sorts. If they need him gone immediately I would suggest you get him to a vets - have him gelded there and leave him there a week - then you will find it easy to find a yard for a gelding

Yeah i know am being optomistic finding a local yard with only geldings and good fencing just thought it was woth an ask incase theres some nice little place hidden away that am not aware of. I'm use to handling stallions and have not had a problem keeping them on gelding only yards before, though did have solid 6ft fencing and alwyas made sure they had a gelding companion they got on with. I most likely will geld him i just want to find him a great home first and settle him in before putting him through the op.

Yeah there seems to be plenty further a field it is a real shame but due to the hours i work i need him close to home just wish i could afford my own place with land, a girl day dream i suppose, sadly the horse is going to auction tomorrow so unless i buy him by tonight im going to loose out. He was the perfect horse for me bar him being a pesky stallion lol anyone got a lovely QH mare for under 800?
