Hello not going to go into too much detail but is there any regulation for how a livery yard is run? I am leaving but want to take it further and make a complaint as there is a big safety issue and total lack of care. BHS maybe?? Or is it a no hope :(

Well, there are health and safety regulations and all sorts for businesses in general, but without knowing what sort of issue it is, it would be difficult to advise where to go with it.

Echo this. However chances are not good. Most H&S laws don't cover enough or they only recommend certain things

The local BHS approved R.S [and livery] yard were told they would not get an H&S certificate unless they complied.
Without and H&S certificate they would not be insured.
Cue lots of activity, stuff, electricity etc.

BUT as it happens I was sitting having a coffee when the H&S man appeared [he had steel capped boots]
He did NOT check for old , opened antibiotic in fridge, alongside our milk and food!
I was told [by YM] to make sure My Horse did not misbehave.......... I said, "well would that not test H&S procedures?"
Anyway my horse WAS well behaved, I was using crossed poles and trotting poles when a girl came in and removed them from the manege....... apparently trotting poles are a tripping hazard, I am NOT making this up!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry that is not helpful, if you are a customer you can move, if an employee ask for help [start at local Jobcentre]
If you are BHS goldmember the legal helpline will advise.
If it is a BHS approved yard you can complain, the yard pays £100 per annum for the privilege of having a bit of paper.
If any animals are neglected phone the RSPCA, the Animal Welfare Act covers this.

Thank you :) I am already moving but tbh I have been totally shocked about how little the horses welfare has been treated and a number of health and safety issues.
