Hello,

I am looking for somewhere to keep my horse, either a livery or a private yard. I live in Clifton so preferably Failand although Almondsbury area would also be ok. I have previously kept my horse at Leyland Court and although facilities are great and people are lovely I need somewhere with more turnout in the winter and also with the option of assisted DIY (ie someone to turn my horse out in the mornings during the week.. winter only).

I know of a few yards in Failand... Manor farm, Ashton hill (both of these are full) and have viewed racecourse farm, but not keen on the fast road, and Copper beech farm (Great hacking but doesnt have a school).....

I am looking for somewhere with year round turnout, decent hacking and a school (I have a 5 year old 16.2 gelding who I want to event), with someone that can turn out the horse in the mornings.... I would be happy to help others out in the evenings/weekends.

If anyone has a space at their yard or knows of anywhere suitable please let me know!!!

Personally I wouldn't recommend any of the yards in Failand for various reasons.

There is more choice north of the city - bit of a pain to get to from Clifton. There is a nice yard which is part/full only: http://www.topline-livery.co.uk/, that's really not far from Copper Beech and the others on that lane. I know Kenn Pier had a stable free recently, that's v near the Hand, but from Clifton is probably only 30 mins from you http://www.kpstables.co.uk/. Nailsea has some nice yards - you need to drive about a bit though as none have websites. From Clifton you can get to Nailsea in about 20 mins. Not as handy as Failand but the better option.

Interesting.... I was going to have look at Brices Farm in Westerleigh.... And a friend of mine recommended Lydes Farm in Doddington but I think thats a bit far out for me to travel every night.... Where would you recommend North Bristol?

Not really my area - but having looked at everything on offer in Failand recently, I ended up in Nailsea ;) There are a lot of yards though just north of Bristol.

There is also Terri Hill's place on the A38 nr Dundry - that seemed ok when I looked round it years ago.

There is a place in Long Ashton. All I will say is I know a lot of people with horses in LA and none of them livery there, they all travel.

If you work nr Almondsbury, how about this place: http://www.buckoverequestrian.co.uk?

Westerleigh would be a nightmare to get to from Clifton, Dodington even more so.

There was a lovely yard advertised not long ago with private hacking, indoor arena, outdoor arena, ayr turnout in Almosbury, think it was called Lower Knole Farm, might be worth a search to find contact details.

Thank you, I'm going to have a look at lower Knole farm but they ate full at the moment to.. I think the ones nearer to clevedon/nailsea are a bit too far... Another option would be a small private yard that doesn't mind one or two liveries esp if there is an arena in hacking distance, wouldn't be great for winter nights as couldn't ride but maybe I need to compromise a little!

I used to be at Westerleigh Stables (the one you are calling Brice's Farm). It's a lovely yard, but agree with monkeybum13 that anywhere that way will be a pain to get to from Clifton - you'd either have to go over the downs and round through Filton to the ring road, or through the centre and along the M32. Would be quicker to get to Nailsea, especially in rush hour!

Saw this advertised last week:

Part Livery - Wraxall - One stable available for part livery (Mon - Fri).
We are a small, private, friendly yard of 8 stables. Children and Adults on the yard ranging from happy hackers to the competition rider. It is a relaxed yard for both horse and owner with 12 acres of new and secure post and rail fencing, lovely sociable, well ventilated stables, grass riding area inc jumps, trailer parking and hay summer / haylage winter included in price. All year turnout. We have great hacking with the Tyntesfield Estate just a short hack, Ashton Court, The Hand Stadium 5 minute trailer journey in either direction and lovely bridlepaths from the yard around the surrounding areas. £220pcm. Please contact - rachaeltitcomb@gmail.com

If you were already considering Failand this potentially is only dropping down from there so could be an option? Looks like it doesn't have an arena as such though?

Thank you, you've all been really helpful. I think I am more likely to go for somewhere north bristol rather than north Somerset as we will prob be moving out that way in the next year or so. Does anyone know anything about hicks common livery in winterbourne? It looks really nice from the website..

heard both copper beech and racecourse farm in failand have recently had strangles just incase anyone else is thinking of going there might be best to wait until they are all clear!!

You might want to look at Wapley stables - outdoor floodlit school. Grove farm, coxgrove hill is very friendly although not the flashiest of yards, it does have both an indoor and outdoor school, although the indoor is small.

I used to be at hicks common many years ago and have a few friends there now! It's great with good facilities assisted DIY etc but I don't think they ever get 24 hour turnout? Think there may be a waiting list too although the owner is currently having more stables built.

Does anyone know if Lyde's Farm, Doddington Lane, is still running a livery yard? If so, could you PM the contact details... Cannot find a website or number anywhere! Desperately trying to find a nice part livery place in South Gloucestershire

Grove farm has lost a lot of grazing, so not ideal if you are looking for more winter grazing? Nick gauntletts was avertising 2 blocks of stables with fantastic facilities on his website. Which is 2 mins from lydes, mousewell farm is also near by.

Thanks for the info... Looking for a decent school and the option of part livery when I'm away with work etc. Price is not an issue as I'll pay anything for a nice yard, with good people and facilities in the area needed :) not that I'm made of money! It's just such a big step moving yards...
