Hi everyone,

I have been in London for 6 years now and have decided to start riding once a week again. Originally from Australia, and used to compete every weeknd nearly with my own horsies... miss it so much. I was looking at livery and sharing here and the costs seem to be astronomical £800 a month for Livery, £250 share for 2 rides a week.
Are these normal prices, do people ever ask experienced riders to ride horses for free??
I had lessons with Andrew McClean for 4 years with my young ID/TB cross. So learnt alot about horse behaviour and working with young horses through him...
Does anybody have any ideas how I could find more oportunites to ride without it costing me a fortune!!

Thanks

for your help

let me guess did you look at Richmond riding centre ????

Do you drive ??

If so there are lots of places just outside london to ride at - I have a few livery's at mine that live in london and drive out to me in Chelsfield (inside the M25)

I am in a very similar situation, being from Sweden and having had my own horses and competed a lot in the past - finding that riding schools in London don't have a great deal to offer me, and that sharing seems ridiculously expensive.

I can recommend Trent Park Equestrian Centre in London for decent riding school horses though - lessons are in the region of £30 and at least they have some pretty decent horses (for flatwork/dressage) and instructors - better than anywhere else I have tried in London.

Hi I am in South around Richmond park, my problem with the shares around the area, still seem very expensive for the amount of riding you get. I suppose it is my problem as I don't drive!!!
Just wondering if there were any other options around

Ah London livery is the biggest pain ever! I keep my horse in Epping at the moment where there are loads of yards for hackers in particular but not the best if you want to compete (which I do) and no good for you to get to.

On a personal aside....Stacey you're back! Did you have a nice break? Can I come see you and yard soon?

There are ways of doing it on the cheep in London.

Why not share a horse with someone that keeps their horses at home? Alternatively there are people in livery yards that are only too happy for people to excercise their horses on a no contribution basis.

There are loads of us around London that keep horses at home and would only welcome the offer of someone to come and ride them. We don't even ask for a contribution just pleased to have someone ride them out and excercise them.

There are also some inner city farms who would be pleased to allow someone to ride their horses out and prevent them from going stale as normally they are just ridden round a menage or indoor school.

Why not have a word with the barrocks on the South Side of Hyde Park as they allow officers wives and sometimes civies to regularly excercise their horses in Hyde Park
