We're thinking about relocating to somewhere further south (OH needs to commute to Uxbridge and we're currently in North Oxon which is too far) and three of the areas we're considering are:

Stokenchurch
Marlow
Great Missenden area

One of my priorities is finding an excellent livery yard close by - for the last few years I've been travelling 30min-1hour each way to my yards and now I'm really ready to find something that is less than 15minutes away ideally!!! I'd like to try and find some potential yards before we get our heart set on living in a particular area!

So can anyone recommend any suitable places in the area? My requirements are:

Full livery (including 3 exercise sessions a week - can be hacking)
Outdoor school (indoor would be ideal too)
Off-road hacking
Lorry parking
Turnout in winter (ideally all day, but half day minimum)

In an ideal world I'd be looking for a professional dressage/eventing yard, but would happily settle for any decent place with good staff etc.

Thanks

Kylie Roddy is opening one in stockenchurch in january, all brand new facilities with on site hacking etc as well, american barn stables to. She has a website to with some pictures.

Joy Dawes is in Missenden, worth a look, Affricks I think?
Marlow, not so many full livery type places but a couple of very nice DIY yards with services? could have full livery i am sure.
Otherwise there are loads in the seer green/Jordan's area, nice area to live in too!

Thanks - found Joy's website. Would prefer not to go for a DIY yard with extra services - bad experiences in the past! Ideally looking for a place that regularly has full liveries, so maybe I'll tell the OH we should discount Marlow (which is ironic as I was under the impression it was a posh area so thought it would be the place with loads of expensive full livery yards!)

Seer green area is possibly a little too far South and close to London for my liking (though I do love Beaconsfield as a place!), but will add it to my long list of places to consider if no-where suitable near Stokenchurch/Gt Missenden.

Website is out of date, he says its on his to do list!! He is based in Tetsworth, Oxon.

Thanks, spoke to another user on here via PM who gave me some details of the yard and have added it to my short list. So far the Stokenchurch area is definitely looking like a promising place - now to find a house!

It's funny, Marlow is very affluent, but I think as you get nearer London you get a lot more of the full livery yards. I keep my horse in Marlow and can't really think of any specialist full livery dressage or eventing yards. However - you may want to consider living in Marlow and keeping your horses out towards radnage/stokenchurch ;)
The other way to go is the holyport Winkfield fifield area, lots and lots of yards in that direction, or amersham/chesham area?

Marlow does look like a lovely area to live, but sadly would rather not have to commute quite so far to horse - been doing it for so many years and quite frankly I'm tired of the constant driving and the amount of money I spend on fuel going to see him every day!

Had considered the amersham area, but then I think it's just a little too far from Oxford where I will need to commute to occasionally (although will take about as long as from Gt Missenden, it's significantly more miles!). Holyport also too far away - ideally want to be close to M40 and above the M4, but thanks for the suggestion.

Are you hoping for a 10-15 min commute to horses? Other nice areas are Wooburn Green, or north of Wycombe there is the Watlington area?

Yeah 10-15min commute to yard is what I'm aiming for. Actually lived in Watlington several years ago, but had my horse over at Joss Gray's near Didcot (at the time I was working 10mins from there, so although it was far from home it was also on my drive home from work). Absolutely loved Watlington as a place (and handy being able to hop on the Oxford Tube at Lewknor Turn when we wanted to go into London ever), but I think realistically we'd like to live just slightly further south as it used to take OH about 45mins to get to Uxbridge from Watlington (and there's often accidents southbound on the M40 around J6.

Considered Wooburn Green, but perhaps a little too far from Oxford.

Sorry I sound like I am being really fussy, which I am! It's just we're not in a huge rush to move and having spent the last several years relocating fairly often, we'd rather take our time and find somewhere where we can (hopefully) settle for the forseable future! Want to try and find a perfect (if that's possible) location for both us and the horse!

Lol best to be sure before you move definitely!
Wooburn is as quick to Oxford as Marlow though - as you can cut up to handy cross through flackwell Heath. Having said that, apart from cliveden all the full livery yards would be in the Beaconsfield area, so prob wrong direction!
Stokenchurch/radnage area is slightly closer to m40 than Watlington too isn't it. Have heard good reports on Fred Hodges' place at Radnage for livery :)

Freds is lovely, but tudor stud farm ia bledlow ridge and does full livery regularly.

It's run by people who are show jumpers but has dressage and eventers on the yard.

I'm at Fred's and would recommend. Been there for two and a half years and very happy. Most liveries have been there for years and those that leave do if moving from area or change in circs. Part, full and schooling livery, all year turnout. PM me for more info if you like :)

Tudor are up the road but believe there are still issues with turnout as it got trashed before they took it on. Seem to have a high livery turnover but not sure if that's sorted itself out now.

Good luck!

Don't touch Radnage with a barge pole! Have heard some really dodgy things about the place, pm me for more info!
I can recommend a dressage yard a few miles from gt missenden towards aylesbury or is that the wrong direction for you?

Laura L23 I think the op would get a more accurate opinion from people who livery there like myself and fine and dandy than by hearsay.
Anyway different things matter to different people which is why I just posted a link rather than saying I recommended it. The only way to get an accurate view is to visit places and ask your own questions.

Hi guys

Just bouncing this back up again as we're now considering living in Chinnor and I was wondering if you could recommend any full livery yards near there - did someone mention there was a yard in Watlington?

Obviously all the stokenchurch places would be suitable too, but I'm just wondering if there are any other yards within 10-15mins drive of Chinnor?

Thanks

What about Damian Hallam and his partner Douglas Hibbert ~ they are in Watlington ? I have trained with both in the past and currently have help with Douglas. I am about to do my first Medium ~ he has been a huge help and both really are easy people to get on with . I have no idea what facilities they have or if they do livery though ??

Someone mentioned Joy Dawes ? Between High Wycombe and Gt. Missenden. A truly lovely lady ~ I believe she has been training with Douglas this year too.

Good Luck !

Yes ~ they have been there for over a year now. They were Wargrave /Henley about 3 years ago. They are still only about 10 mins from Henley now though. 5 mins from junction 6 of the M40 ~ Have you trained with them before ecrozier ? Love your name by the way !!

No - know a few people who have/do though, and just nosey as that is my home area! Grew up exactly there - 10 mins from Henley in the Watlington direction! Will have to look up where they are - must be super close to my parents place!
Thanks :) is actually my initial and maiden name!

If you are still looking chinnor area i keep my horses at full livery in henton literally a minute from chinnor.

PM me if you want details, all yr round individual t/o think we have had to keep in 4 times in the 3 1/2 yrs i have been there. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my horses now.
