Hi to all. I am relocating from Lincs to just outside Worthing in 6 weeks time with a new NHS job and am looking for livery around there. From lots of internet research I have shortlisted down to Fox or Spearfield in Patching and Hangleton Farm - who don't seem to be easy to get hold of. I have also heard mentioned Myrtle Grove in Patching? I have a 14:2 irish cob x mare who is a good doer. Looking for assisted DIY or part livery with a school and some hacking around friendly, knowledgeable people. Real time experience/opinions would be invaluable at this stage and I would be grateful for any advice - it will be stressful enough without landing on a nightmare of a yard! PM me by all means and many thanks in advance. x

Probably useless but I went on a riding holiday to hangleton farm years ago, I remember it was a lovely yard, very big and busy though but with access directly onto south downs from a little lane closeby and near to a dedicated horse crossing over a big A road to get to the beach! Though not sure whats going on there now, I remember seeing it for sale a couple of years ago. Good luck for the move, tis a gorgeous area!

Are you looking for full livery or DIY?

Hangleton is good there are lots of people, a real community atmosphere but the hacking from there requires crossing a busy dual carriageway or a bridge, there is highdown but always busy so not exactly a relaxing hack!

Spearfield has great hacking directly on to the angmering park estate and can get on to the southdowns with no roadwork other than a little lane the yard itself is run quite strictly though, which is a bonus in my book but some people may not like.

If you have just moved to the area and want to meet lots of people then I don't think you can beat Hangleton. It has its pros and cons but then every yard does. I was there for 8 years as a child (a long long time ago!) and 4 years with my current horse although I am at a different yard now. I have lots of friends still there and others whom I met there and we are still friends now even though we are at different yards. Maybe a good place to start out and then if it isn't your bag it gives you breathing space to look for something else. It is still for sale though.

Other yards - Myrtle Grove - one on the left is the Lazy T-bar but I don't think they have any services or a school. There is Caroline Macs yard on the right which has a school and services. Then there is Long-furlong farm which is just a bit further on from Myrtle Grove ( next turning) it has a school but I don't think it has any formal services but some people on the yard offer them. There are other yards dotted around but as it is on the coast it can be a bit limited as the sea gets in the way! Good luck - if you want to ask anything about the Area feel free to pm me. :)

Thanks to all for your contributions. Have now rang every yard on my shortlist so have a much better idea. Hangleton is being split in two to sell -they were very upfront and honest about that.

Hangleton is big enough to be split in two and still have plenty of room and facilities. Long Furlong Farm is full up I believe, they do also own Lazy T though. Caroline Mc runs a very tight good yard, DIY and full or assisted with services, very nice yard. There is also a DIY yard with school and services further down the same lane at Lee Farm. All the yards in that area, Patching, have unrivalled hacking, absolutely amazing, although you cam also access it from Hangleton by a specially built under pass so minimal road work. I'm road phobic and used to do it on my 4 year old.
