Hi all,

Newbie here...been lurking for a while and am hoping someone may be able to help in my search for livery!

I'm looking for 1 well behaved mare, preferably part livery or assisted (may consider full if reasonable price!)...

I'm based near Jn 24/25 of M1 so looking in Derby (Spondon, Ockbook etc), Kegworth ish area's of Leics, Notts etc....may go further afield for the right yard so not really strict on exact areas..

Must have all year turnout (stabling over night ok, but no restricted t/o), floodlit menage and no nastiness/silly rules etc!! Preferably not electric fenced fields, but thats not a major issue....

It would be really helpful if anyone has any suggestions for me!

Lakeview at Borrowash is lovely.

Draycott House is in that area too but I don't know what it is like. I think there is also a yard up near risley saddlery. Coffee bean on here is at a yard near ockbrook I think, can't remember the name..... there is also a newish place near shardlow I think, that has a small riding school attached, again I don't know the name, but someone said that spondon saddlery had now moved to premises on the yard.

Hi - thanks for the replies...

Unfortunately lakeview is too expensive for me... :(

I really need my livery to be under £330 a month...

Draycott House have apparently got rid of almost all their liveries and have 1 person coming in with lots of horses....

I know the one you mean in shardlow...heard too many stories so thats a no no...

Any more suggestions anyone??

There is Spire View in Gotham (not sure if their details are on the net though), there is a livery in Hemmington although no idea what they are called or what their yard policies are, so that's not much help! :o There's another place on the road into Gotham - Stone Pit Farm I think - again I have no idea about them!
My yard is in near J24 and is lovely, but as a rule they aren't a Livery Yard (although that is changing...) and their T/O is limited in winter, although this year the horses have been out all day, just in at night.
There are liveries near Long Whatton and Diseworth, plus Riseholme and Park Farm at East Leake, and Elms Farm in Costock.
All depending whereabout you are/travelling to!

Thanks everyone.

Yes unfortunately Melton Mowbray is too far...

Thanks for the info kirstyhen.....certainly some there to try and find details for....I've heard of stonepit, but like you, know nothing about them and I'm a bit nervous of going to yards with no prior knowledge!!

East Leake and Costock are just a bit too far really (East Leake is just over 1/2 hour drive for me)...

I thought you were Gloucs way.....You must be on my door step, as they were the were the places I'd have suggested

I was :D stayed down there after Uni, but moved back up here last year. Loving being home again, maybe it was where I was or not knowing the area so well, but here there is a huge amount of tack/feed places and loads of places to go schooling/competing! Vale view paninis are worth the move alone! :D

Stonepit you will be restricted on turnout, they have hardly any in winter time. Their entrance/exit is also based on a very busy main road too. Although hacking is good around the gotham, west leake, east leake area.

Spire View has electric tape turnout and isn't actually a properly registered livery yard.

Barton is looking promising and is well worth a look with regards to facilities and people running it. Not sure on turnout etc. as not sure what they offer. Indoor and outdoor menage.

Damn! Horse can't cope with restricted t/o or 24/7 stabling so thats no good....

Going to ring Barton I think, though the A453 can be an absolute s*d of a road...especially at rush hour...thats the only thing that worries me...at least for gotham I can go via Kingston....

Anymore suggestions would be gratefully received!!

Barton is great, and has new people running it now, with facilities being updated too from what I have heard. They have turnout all winter, 7/8am to between 3/4pm in winter, and full turnout in summer.
The best way is to always turn left out of Barton, then right along the Gotham road and through Kingston and Kegworth every time!! Used to work in Derby when horses lived there!!

Good luck

You can go to Barton via Kingston/Gotham, and then over the A453 (possibly easier said than done!) :D

Oooops, :o didn't see someone had already said that! :D

There's Canaan (sp?) Farm in Costock too and Welldale, I think there is a yard opposite Welldale too.

I think there is a yard called Hollygate at Cotgrave too

I enquired at Spire View in Gotham a while ago but they're a private yard. Ive heard that the facilities are really good at Canaan Farm in costock :)
