I'm currently spending 1 hr a day and over £50 per week travelling to and from the yard my horse is stabled at, and feel like all I have time and energy to do when I'm there is muck out. I'm not finding enough time to ride which isn't fair on him, and frustrating for me. My husband is also fed up with me spending all evening every evening up the stables whilst he's sitting alone at home, and I'm constantly stressed he's going to give me grief when I get home if I stay a bit longer to squeeze some schooling in. Understandably, the combination isn't looking good long term for any of us so I think the only option is to look for part or full livery closer to home and preferably, on the way to/from work.
Does anyone know of any friendly yards offering full or part livery local to Balsham, Linton, Abington, or Fulbourn? It would need to have a good sized ménage, turn out and stable big enough to accommodate a 17.2h gelding. I've enquired about Prestige in Castle Camps but they're pricey and I'm weary I haven't heard anything positive about them through word of mouth.

You could try Amanda Butchart's place in Great Abington - her details are on the BHS website. Don't know what it's like as a livery yard as I've only been there a couple of times for lessons (she organises clinics). Lovely big outdoor school though.

There are several little yards in Abington so it might be worth going for a drive around the area and asking. I've seen horses in Linton also but don't know if there's a livery yard there.

Sorry, not a huge amount of help! Hope you find somewhere.

Heath Farm - Fulbourn do part livery includes hay and turn out in the mornings. I have a number if you PM. Barnley Equestrian Centre is just up the road from Prestige. I too wouldn;t go to Prestige but I know the farmer runs DIY next door and he is lovely. PM if you want any further info.

Hi there,
Thank you for all your suggestions it's much appreciated. I've heard Heath Farm is nice and it turns out an old friend keeps her horse there too so I would have inquired with them had I not already found somewhere. Fortunately I've discovered there's a livery yard 10 minutes walk from my house (Woodhall Equestrian) and by fluke they've just had a space become available. The lady who runs it seems really nice and having spoken to a couple local residents they have nothing but good things to say about her so I've decided to move my lad there. Being so close to home my hubby will hopefully be much happier now I won't be spending so much time travelling to and from the stables, and despite moving from part to full livery I'll actually save money as won't be spending anything on petrol :D
Being fairly new to horse ownership I wasn't aware of the Shelford and District Bridleways Group so thanks for the details on that I'll definitely be checking the website out. It's just a shame I haven't yet found the same sort of group for my side of the A11, because as far as I'm aware there's no way of getting across it by horse if hacking over to the Shelfords from Balsham which is a ****** because I know there's great hacking around Wandlebury Country Park :(

Do you live in Balsham too?! You can hack over to Wandlebury across the motorway bridge at Worsted Lodge. Then along the Roman road to Wandlebury. It would be a trek from Balsham. Do Woodhall stables do DIY then??

Hi Melle, Yep I live in Balsham down old house road. Do you hack in Balsham? I don't think I've been over the Worsted bridge but drive under it every day. Wouldn't a horse freak out being high up over the dual carriage way? My lad is only 6yrs old, still very babyish in so many ways and hasn't hacked much so I'd be worried to take him over it. But then again, after a few weeks of hacking he'll get used to being out without feeling nervous and might be coaxed into going across with a confident companion.
Woodhall only does full livery - something I can't really afford without having to live on a baked beans and fresh air lol but full livery is necessary to keep hubby happy so I'll be making sure he coughs up for some of the monthly charge ;-)

haha - I live in Plumian Way!! Yes I cannot afford full livery so I keep my horse at Barnley as this is DIY. There is a field behind some of the houses down Old House road - the lady who owns it used to rent it for horses. I did enquire last year but it was a resounding no! shame!

As for the motorway bridge me and girl never got the bottle to cross it, I was more freaked tha her I think as you are higher than the sides of the bridge. Very unnerving - but then all the liveries at Heath farm seemed to hack over it with no problems - probably just what your horse gets used to.

I wouldn't dream of going across the bridge mounted. But with a bit of NAF calmer and the company of a confident horse I'd give it a go leading him across once my boy is more confident hacking.

Steorra does Amanda Butchart advertise her clinics anywhere? Not that I have transport to get there at the moment but could be something to consider when I do have some

Sorry Spacie I don't know! I took a share horse to hers a couple of times but it was all arranged by his owners. Would think you could contact her directly though.

Sorry for the unhelpful post, didn't want to just not answer :)
