Livery not doing poo picking causing bad feelings

Thanks again for all your great suggestions. As YO I'm in my 50s and have had 3 spinal surgeries yet still poo pick for my own 2 horses so you can see how fed up I am with lazy livery who is a fit able young woman. I've put my poo picking chart up on board tonight and have msgd lazy livery to advise on this ( couldn't advise her face to face as she's not been anywhere near the yard for at least 6 days so I can't wait for her have a 0 barrows on the poo chart so I can give her notice. Thank goodness my other 2 liveries are lovely.
How are you going to prove she's done it if she just comes up and marks on your chart she's done it without actually doing any. She doesn't sound honest anyway if she doesn't check her horse when she's meant to, I expect it's exactly what she'll do

Yes I do fear as much but it's worth a try if not will try plan b which is to say I'm not offering assisted very this winter so she goes. Sadly there are far too many horse owners who lack commitment.

Just give her notice now! We have one like this on our yard who won't come up for months, won't poo pick and yo is doing her horse full time. She's having a nightmare trying to get rid of her and the horse!

We don't poo pick on our yard but we have more grazing than we know what to do with. We have 40+acres for 10 horses although not all year as they also take haylage off it. We move to the 20 acre hayfields after they've cut them and stay there until they start coming in overnight towards the end of November. They then move around 4 smaller fields of between 3 and 7 acres between November and July. All the fields are harrowed and rested then grazed by sheep for at least 3 months when they move.

We also do regular worm counts and they are always low or clear so it's clearly not affecting them.

Eh Frumpoon, i have two acres for a horse and if I didnt poo pick it would be disgusting in no time ! This is one of the reasons of greatest resentment on yards, when someone doesnt pull their weight. Its the reason I hate sharing a paddock

I agree with this. Our 5 horses are on 10 acres and I very rarely poo pick. I have the field harrowed and rolled at the start of spring and that's it. They are also sectioned off into 5 acres in the summer and I still find that I'm fine.

However, I do understand with liveries etc and if it were me, I wouldn't be tempted to put a board up as the livery could simply lie and say she has (I've known this to happen).

I would put her horse in her own paddock then she is responsible for her own, then you can see if she is doing it. Then is she still insists I would be either charging or serving notice.

The key point here is that the livery is claiming that she has done it when she hasn't so it would be a case of catching her out.

Not seeing your horses for 6 days is not on, you should have a requirement they are seen by the owner or someone paid to do so at least once if not twice a day. This seems like a bigger problem than just not poo picking to me.

I'd stop faffing and give her notice.

This why I said bring the horse in. Tell her you have done it and then she will have to come up daily to muck the horse out. If she refuses give her notice.

I understand if you are a non confrontational type, but you have to stand up for yourself.

Update lazy livery caught out straight away. Put on chart had done some barrows 20 mins after the field had been completely cleared by my other livery. Have told lazy livery it's diy yard horse needs checking min of once a day in summer which she's not doing and also is expecting everyone else to do bulk of poo picking. Told her she had to find somewhere else for her horse as her lack of commitment was not acceptable on my yard and was upsetting the status quo

Well done! How did she take the news?

YO here. I have it written into my contracts that if a livery hasn't done something by a certain time/day then I will do it and they will be charged. Price list included with their contract. For example, if the fields haven't been cleared of poo by the end of the weekend then I will do it Monday morning. I make allowances for shift workers/people who work weekends, within reason, as long as they are not taking the piss.

If this starts to happen regularly, without prior agreement, then they will be given their notice.
I like my fields to be kept clean. Its better for the grass and its better for the horses. Poo picking is one of the best things that can be done to reduce worm burden.

I would like your yard! I like yards with strict rules and guidelines and a YO/M whom isn't one for walking on eggshells. In my experience, you get a lot less drama in such places. :)

lol, I am really not one for drama. I've had lazy, complainy liveries in the past and I just can't be doing with them! My current liveries are great. They pay all bills on time without a quibble, take good care of their horses and are generally lovely people. Everyone just gets on with their business, no dramas, and the horses are happy and relaxed. My yard has only been open for 4 years, but I've learnt to be picky and would rather have fewer, good liveries than a yard full of bitching.

What a dick! I have the same issue, I'd clear an area then someone else would take the credit. I now only clear the bottom of the field,
