I have been weighing up my costs recently as to what to do. I am on a fantastic yard with everything i need from the best for my horse to the best for me, with all bedding and feed on site, XC course up to PN, 2 arenas, indoor american barn, heated tack room and rug room you name it we have it.

The thing is I could really cut my monthky expenses by moving to a basic yard nearer to home, I pay arounf £300 - £350 a month livery plus £50.00 a week in petrol for my 38mile round trip from home to the yard and back.

I could move to a yard closer to home very basic for less money and it would cut my petrol costs in half but Im not sure if it would be worth.

I need help, what would you do? Would it be worth it.

Can you write a list of facilities at your yard that you either do or might use?
e.g. 'starvation paddock' if your horse is prone to chubbiness but not 'great SJs' if you/horse don't like Sj-ing. The add to that a list of the 'cons' such as expense and distance.

Then do similar for the new yard.

Look at the gaps and work out how much you care about them. (Or post the lists on here for HHO to guess at!)

Can I come and live with you?! Your place sounds fantastic and quite reasonable, although I can't speak for regional differences.

I've just moved to a new yard which is wonderful but I've had to pay to get what I want. I think, if you're used to the facilities, you would miss them. And, if your pony's happy, I'd really think long and hard if I were you - sometimes a move can really upset them and they're never quite the same...

Depends on what you want more. But be warned it's far easier to
Move to a cheaper yard than it is the other way round. Once you get used to the extra cash it's hard to give it up

See heres the catch 22,

I use everything and I do love it there my girlie is happy there but to be fair to her we were at a basic yard before and she was happy there too as long as she gets cuddles, food and love shes happy,

I love her dearly and would pay anything to make her happy but im 24 I need to think about moving out at some point but livery bills and extra petrol isnt helping.

I am working 2 jobs monday - Friday day (40 hours) Monday, Fri and Sat evenings (20 + hours) and Im running myself down as i use all my free time for her and my friends and man.

I worked out I could afford to put away £10 a week for savings to move out but even after 5 years thats only £2,635 how sad is that, Im not sure what to do.

Stay where I am and look for a better paid job, move closer to the yard or move all together.

That's enough of a reason to move, imo.

No point making yourself ill.

Thats what my mum said, I am considering it but I love it there but I love my free time too. I think i need to think on it a little more. Dont want to go back to my own yard one beacuse I dont like half the people there and secondly the school is most the time unavalible due to being too deep and if I am leaving a yard with so much space to exersize I need to move somewhere with atleast a decent school.
