I'm thinking of moving livery yards to a new yard. We don't have a contract for our current yard...however I wasn't sure what the done thing is with notice periods if there is no contract?

YO has been fab and I'd like to give her as much notice as I can...however the stable at the new yard is available from later this week...im not sure how long they will hold it for, I will obviously ask tomorrow as we are going for a second look round with my daughter. Don't really want to pay two lots of livery...or leave on a bad note as we'd go back if the new one didn't work out 😂

Thanks

Ah I did wonder! So 4 weeks? That's how often we pay. Thanks

Yes, and most reputable new yards would hold the box for you for 4 weeks notice, as they expect you to need to give notice. They might as fir an up front deposit, but shouldn’t expect you to pay before your notice is up.

Tell the new yard that you want to give a decent notice period to your old yard and want to be fair to them. Personally I’m always happier to hear that from a potential livery than I am hearing someone ask me to not say anything to anyone as nobody knows they’re leaving!

I always give one month notice but plan for two board payments. Granted I’m in the US so things maybe different with how people react to giving notice.
