Hello All -

Due to a complete change in circumstances I need to relocate my horse to Aberdeen by March.

I have never been on a livery yard and neither has my horse so we are brand new to all this.

I am looking for full livery options due to my work but could potentially do part livery. The main issue is my horse can be aggressive when turned out with others, he is friendly to horses when riding and tied up etc but when loose he can be a bully and I would worry about the other horses becoming hurt so would need to be able to turn him out on his own to start with before any new horses could be introduced. He is not aggressive at all to people, and infact is overly friendly! He does love the company of others horses but its in a turnout situation which he can become overly dominant.

Any suggestions would be greatly appericated as I really dont have alot of time and this week has been total crap so my heads all over the place.

thanks
:)

How close to Aberdeen do you need to be? I'm from up that way originally and know the area a little bit :)

Hey Guys - I am in the west end of the city, just off Anderson Drive so can get good access. I would like to have a livery on that side of the city - out westhill, kingswells way as not too bad to drive too from my flat.

I'd recommend Newton of Fintray. Jen's a very good friend of mine. She's a BHSI so fantastic training on site (evented to 3*, dressage to PSG) lovely arena, walker, not normally individual turnout but smaller fields so might be an option. Only thing is she is very busy and there is usually a wait-list. She might be able to recommend others though.

You could try Milltimber farm - as a result of the new bypass they have moved to purpose built premises, have friends that keep horses there. Not sure about full livery (highly unlikely) but you might be able to strike a deal with other liveries?

I used to livery on a private yard that might still do it.

I can ask around as much as you like, still have plenty of contacts up that way. It's a much more horsey area than Edinburgh so you should find something easily. PM me if you want more contacts :)

I think Loanhead and Easter Mains Livery would both be in about the right kind of area for you. A friend used to keep her pony at Loanhead way back when we were at school and it was quite good at that time. I think they certainly used to be able to divide their fields into small paddocks so they might be able to accommodate your boy's needs :)

Good luck with the move! It's a nice area and as N_L_M says very horsey so you should find something nice!

thanks guys, much appericated! I have limited horses contacts up there so big help.

Also, if anyone knows of good horse vet and/or farrier in the area too?

so much to sort :/

There is Fountain - outside Dyce which do full livery. Very nice facilities.

Also Ladyleys which is just outside Oldmeldrum so about 20ish min drive. Im a livery there. They do full/part/diy/grass livery and have some individual turnout paddocks.

As for a vet, I highly recommend Donview Vets (Inverurie). Have heard a lot of bad things about Ardene recently. My wonderful farrier is Ron Aiken but i'm not sure if he will take on new clients as he is very busy - especially if you are a livery close to Aberdeen as he is based about 30miles north.

Try hoghome in Blackburn, they do individual turnout and is the best yard in Aberdeen for service and facilities! Either that or denburn in kingswells they have a few aggressive horses already there and deal well with them ;-)

Hi,

Also live in aberdeen and am at a new livery facility (new in terms of facility was with the owners at their old place) just passed Milltimber. Friendly small yard but will be holding BSJA competitions this summer. They have a large schooling ring and an indoor is about to be built, lots of hacking and turnout. They definitely do full livery so PM me if you want any more info. Take great care of the horses so would highly recommend :)

Echo what others have said about farriers, I use Ron Aitken and he is great..also really rate Graham at Ardene house!
