i am in situation where i may be leaving my livery yard, it is a nice yard but not suitable for current horse, i have 2 horses one sane and one that needs a bit of work
option one is an old riding school, £25 a week + hay, pros - good facilities though dated/run down, small indoor/outdoor, good hacking, quite quiet so can be left to own devices, xc course to rent at extra cost, friend on yard so would have access to shows/beach rides etc
cons - YO old fashioned and doesnt budge even though she doesnt even run the yard/ isnt onsite, e.g.doesnt do worm counting which i asked to do, dont get pick of grazing i.e i have a VERY good doer so dont want to be in lush grazing field and cant muzzle 24/7 as it rubs when on for a long time got told id have to pay extra to section a bit of, have to be in for about 4/5 months during wet/winter
option two - £116 p/m per horse, pros - yard about 10mins walk so would save petrol, get own paddocks, possible to be out in winter depending on field conditions, small woodchip arena - not sure how usable this would be? good hacking
cons - quite a few liveries so likely to be some yard politics, have to buy hay/straw from them only, most expensive option although planning to sell one horse soon so would be ok once down to one, no access to shows etc, seem to have a lot of rules
option three - £80 for 2 horses p/m - rent a field and use all saved money on trailer so can rent arena as/when i fancy it pros - be in full control of how i want to keep my horses, no yard politics, nice and cheap, can be out all winter, feild in mind has fab hacking and has a yard nearby so could hire out arena sometimes, could afford trailer and to keep my 2nd horse
cons - no full access to arena onsite or any help(have parents + OH if i am ever ill) no water or electricity (i think) would need to buy field shelter/storage type thing for somewhere dry to tack up/groom etc
sorry its so long! im thinking through all my options! what do we think?
