I dont know what to do - arrived at my yard yesterday to be told that the Yard Manager is leaving to buy her own yard (to be honest I think there's more going on that we know as the people she rents the yard from are not particularly nice to her). She's moving too far away for me to go with her altho I'd love to. Thing is do I
a) wait and see if anyone comes and takes over the livery business - there'll only be two liveries left who dont want to move so it's hardly a going concern!
b) move my horse somewhere else (but there arent that many places with such good facilities as ours).
c) move my horse home but would mean getting her some company and of course we havent got the facilities.

I dont want to do anything too rash and I feel sure that as the farmer has invested in the stables etc he isnt going to want them to go to waste. Problem is I cant ask anyone what their plans are cos the Yard Manager doesnt want anyone to know her plans until everything's signed and sealed. Any thoughts?
This is giving me sleepless nights!!

I would sit it out. If there has been investment in the facilities someone will probably take it on, and either bring liveries with them or advertise. I have been at a yard for 10 years where there have been so many changes of manager I have lost count, but I just keep my head down and get on with it.

At the same time I would do a bit of homework to find out what other yards are in the area, so you have a Plan B ready if you need it.

I'm sure it will all work out fine.

Thanks everyone for these. I'd love to take the yard over but I couldnt afford to give up my job and do it. And I cant speak to the farmer yet cos the Yard Manager hasnt told him herself and doesnt want it to get out til her sale is signed and sealed. Bit unfair on the two of us left behind I'd say!!!!

I think the sit it out option might be the only answer - you'd understand why I dont want to leave cos it's got indoor school and fab hacking. And it's only 10 mins from home!!

Wait it out if I were you - best not to make any rash decisions. Only thing is, I suppose, if there will be a gap between current YO leaving and a new one taking over (esp if you need assistance with livery).

No we have an indoor school and there will be 2 liveries left when the Yard Manager moves and takes the other nine with them!!! Guess why I'm keen to stay?!!
