hiya just after some advice really. a space at the diy yard down the road has come up and i have enquired before to ask if they would let me come and go inbetween uni. the only problem is my mare is stabled whilst at uni and fully clipped is it ok to rug her up loads with a shelter and live her out for 6 weeks while im home or is that abit harsh. cheers

Depends on the horse but I personally wouldn't change a horses routine that much in the middle of winter. Yes, they can manage fine living out but if they're used to being in it might be a bit of a shock.

She would probably cope, but it wouldn't be the best plan.

We had a door made for our field shelter -could you do that, and put down hardcore and mats inside, so that she can be stabled at night?

thats what worries me. although she does hate living in with a passion. shes a very fine cob. cheers

ahhh why didnt i think of this. its a really good idea, il go round tomorrow and ask them, cheers

Don't think I would be happy to turn one of mine out 24/7 when used to being stabled, but I guess it depends on the weather a bit as well. Are there no stables at the yard you want to move to?

When I was at moreton morrell and came home for the winter I used to turn my boy out for the 2 weeks. He was clipped, just rugged him up and fed adlib hay. He was fine
