Move livery. As they have no idea about young stock he's 6 months old for god sake, he's a baby and on a learning curve, beat him up and you will have a youngster that will distrust people for the rest of his life and they usually end up in cans of dogmeat. how many posts have you read on this forum about horses and ponies that have been mistreated in the past.
 
might be nearly time to part with his bits if getting cheeky ! keep him in check and lead around and manner him appropiately! ready for weaning! colts can get very stroppy but i wouldnt put a chain on him! (tho if he was a deliquent whopper i might think more manners......................
 
A strong voice and a squirt with a water pistol sorted my colt foal out!!
He now knows the boundries and i have never had to 'beat him up'.
I would be careful your YO is not being nasty to your horses when you're not around.
