Does anyone know of a fantastic - and I mean fantastic ! Livery yard - Surrey side of London, so off the A3, M3, top of the M4, M25. Or Guildford way
I need to find a yard for a friend of mine who has a couple of horses and right this minute I really wouldnt recommend the yard that im at.
Its for competition horses, so will have to have good facilities. price isnt a problem.
Thanks ! !
Sx

Thundry Farm at Elstead - if she's got competition horses then that is where she should go

Corinne Bracken is the jump trainer and Lizzie Murray does the dressage training there and the owner competes herself

Oldencraig is the wrong direction
no hacking worth a damn
no turnout at all for about 8 months of the year as the land is solid clay and more like a paddyfield

so O'craig is great for dressage and competition horses that are never required to hack and don't need turnout and are happy to be on the horsewalker, lunged and ridden every day and where you want competitions coming out of your ears just outside the stable door

stacey - wasn't getting at you - just done O'craig and got the T shirt shall we say

red rag to a bull perhaps ;-))

oh dear that bad then !!! i compete there and must say its nice as they run the 2 classes together less waiting around but annoying when your warming up for a prelim and they are teaching a horse canter pirrouettes !!!

I did look at Oldencraigs website but its just that bit to far out,
although thundary is a bit far out it does look good but do they turn out there ? from the website looks like they only go out on their day off?

yep - and if you notice there are rarely any horses turned out
the 'devils dyke' is a pond in the winter and the land is unusable and in the summer it is rock hard
my stallion was promised turnout and in a year never got any - luckily it didn't bother him

I do know that there is a high turnover of liveries there - few people stay longer than a year.

however the competitions available are fantastic and the facilities to ride on the premises are great

if you are a livery though and want to use the school at the weekend then there are competitions and client lessons always taking place and despite 4 or more arenas - never one to yourself for 5 mins at a time unless you are very lucky

your comment about canter pirouette teaching made me smile

nope - they turn out - and have land to do it as well

also good hacking direct out from the farm onto well drained sandy soil with lots of b'paths

Hi Gucci

Im at one of those yards, was previously at an other and not to keen on the other ! Thank you though! Right area though !

I think ill give thundary a call !

oh yes

my time there was most illuminating - esp. in regard to soundness of imported horses and how much they had done at unreasonably young age....

I'm at Thundry and love it!!!! Come and join us, have PM you.

Only half day max - but I dont want a dust bowl !
The school has to be of a good standard with floodlights!
I really feel that im looking for the impossible ! However the PM'd suggestions sound pretty good !
Customer service would be a bonus - but I know you rarely get that on a yard !
