Livery terminology?

I am currently advertising livery, full-care including m/o, t/o, forage, basic feeds & basic groom, etc., 7 days per week, but no exercising. Would you consider this full or part livery? I have advertised it as part livery, and am offering it at a lower rate than most surrounding yards (brilliant hacking, but school will not be built til later this year, so can't compete with better-equipped yards currently!), and have had only one enquiry. Should I be calling the 7-day per week care I am offering "full livery without exercise" or something to that effect? Do you consider part-livery to be full care daily without exercise, as I thought, or full care without exercise 5 days per week? Thanks in advance, it's all quite confusing!
 
Depends on the norm for your area? Sorry that's not much help! Round here that would be termed full livery as I can't think of any yards where riding or exercise is included as a matter of course, or even offered at most places. Part livery here is more of a small step up from assisted DIY, so turn out and fetch in, or turnout and muck out.
 
Thanks for that, Bethie, I think that may be my exact problem. The one person I did speak with told me my price was too steep for part-livery, which confused me greatly after looking at other yards in my area, and comparing with what I am offering. Think I will try the other tact, and detail exactly what the client will be getting! Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't have a hard-and-fast grip on the definitions of full and part livery. :)
 
Hi I have a yard in Surrey and would call this part livery,and I call full livery if it includes exercise,its really confusing you never can be quite sure what people expect.I started my yard without a school and then built one just like you but it is really quiet out there at the moment everybody just seems to want DIY,good luck with the yard though.
 
Personally i'd call what you're offering full livery. There are a few full livery only yards in my area and none of them offer exercise as a matter of course, it's charged for as an extra. My yard would class full livery as 7-day care, inc feed, straw, hay etc... full livery, part livery would be 5-day (weekday) full care and owner does w/ends and doesnt include feed, straw and hay, and DIY owner does & buys everything. Yard does offer t/o's, bring in, rug change etc... but is charged for as extras on top of the DIY rate. Hope that helps :)
 
I would have called it full livery. If they where ridden too I'd call it full ridden livery. But then I'm only on DIY, so what do I know?! hehe!
 
I'd call it 7-day part livery. Full livery includes exercise, IMO. Some places round here offer 5-day and 7-day part, which is basically full care but no exercise.

Why not advertise "full livery" but make it clear that you do not include exercise in the price?
 
Thanks guys, all of your comments have been really helpful! I think I will just advertise as "livery available", and detail what is (and is not) included for the price. And thanks for the well-wishes, 1966barby, think I will need all I can get for now! :D I read your post recently, and thought your yard sounded much like mine, but with a school. Can't wait to have ours installed as the "added attraction". Did you find that having a school helped you get more interest, or was the good hacking more what people were looking for?
