Home! Maintenance isn't a problem at all, you wil find a way to do whatever needs done.
Own rules, own times, no interference, no grotty little stables with randomers on either side of you. No company doesn't bother me as I have horsey friends from being out and about so if need a hand etc. call someone! No sharing of facilities, do horses in pyjamas etc. etc.
Mine aren't at home as such, but at my field I bought 1 & 1/2 miles from home. I've had it a couple of years and I love it. The best thing is setting up to make life better for my old boy. He gets mud fever and now has a double sized stable with a small woodchip outside area where he can touch noses with his pal. When he has to come in, he's no longer miserable shut in a small stable. Also, the cost savings are huge. Harrowing, rolling, poo removal & hedge cutting are just a phone call away and cost about one months livery for 3, giving me a saving of 11 months. The rest I do myself. Love it.
Would never keep mine at home unless i won the lotto and could afford a house with a indoor school.
Also time is a major factor for me, I rock up at night ,horse is in stable all mucked out, i can just tack up go ride then pop her back in stable and not have to worry,
So to be mucking out/turning horses out etc it a show stopper for me. i like time to be able to do other activities too, so its the best option for me.
Again i want to be able to ride all year round what ever the weather and for that a indoor school is a must , so not only would i not keep at home i would not livery at somewhere without indoor school.
Home (...which just happens to be a livery yard )
We don't have an indoor school yet - it's a ten minute hack there at a slow walk/trot to warm up which means I can get straight down to business.
All the facilities are exactly how mom and I like them, plus no fights for arena usage etc, or problems with needing unorthodox turnout (e.g. sometimes R has to be on his own).
Everything is how I like it plus I can check the horses in my pjs
