Hi All,

Please help,

I was at a yard with my baby and was v happy but moved because of the road it was on (not going to be safe to start her walking out) and the ragwort problems that no-one seemed to care about except me.

I love the other liveries where we are so much and the facilities and hacking are fantastic for when she is older and the stables are beautiful now but these are all nice things that we dont really NEED the one thing we do need; decent turnout, is terrible!

Actually the worst i have ever seen, there used to be 15 horses and there was fairly sufficient grazing but they not so long ago added 6 more boxes and took 2 large fields off the liveries which are now reserved for pirrelli camps which happen 2 or 3 times a year and we are not allowed to use them inbetween. So now we have 6 more horses and about 4 less acres.

They have put the horses in herds to try and accommodate the increased numbers in a smaller space but as of saturday we will have 9 mares all together, they have 2 fields, 1 of about 2 acres and 1 thats 1.5 acres and thats being generous. The mares are hungry and frustrated (we do out hay out) and they fight but it always seems to be my filly that gets the kicking!

She has had 2 nasty kicks this week and we cant seperate her because she doesnt have anywhere to go and when we have tried to section a bit of the field off she just runs around to try to get back to the rest of the herd even when we sectioned her with another 2 of the mares.

We have spoken to the owners and they refuse to give us any more space and insist that it will be ok if they fertilise next year. I just dont think so and in the meantime, the filly i bought to hopefully event is getting her legs chopped to oblivion!

I am trying to find somewhere to move her to but just dont know where.

(wow this is getting long - sorry)

Need to find somewhere close to Stourbridge, Blakedown, Churchill that has the following:

Good turnout - absolute must - ideally in small groups or at least fields that accommodate the size of group
If possible 24/7 turnout.

Then ideally -

School
Decent hacking (not main road preferably)
Good stabling ( ideally american style so she can see the other horses)

Anything else would be a bonus as would some of the above.

PLease help!!!!

Deperate mommy! xx

How awful! What on earth are the yard owners thinking of? 9 horses in a 2 acre paddock with no grazing? I can't help I'm afraid but good luck. You need to get your girl out of there soon. In fact, I would buy some electric fencing and ask if you can partition her off in a pen. Not worth the risk to turn her out a day longer.

Im glad its not just us that think its ridiculous! The owners look at us gone out when we complain like we are idiots, i was starting to question myself!

The problem is, if i section her off she just wants to get back to the others and paces and charges round. She is very sociable and loves her friends but they are just so frustrated. I just need to move her which is such ashame but it has everything we like but not the one thing she needs!

I hope you can find somewhere quickly, because however bad this is, all hell is going to be let loose when someone notices that you've named their yard here. Could you get your post changed?

I think the clue is on their website, lots of mention of stables, but nothing about acres of grazing or turnout. Some people don't consider that important.

Tinypony,

thanks for pointing that out, i hadnt thought about that but Mr Controller has edited for me!! insert embarrassed smilie! LOL

It is ridiculous though isnt it! Hopefully they will split us for the winter at least so haying is easier, i refuse to be trampled by 9 hungry horses when i am 6 months pregnant!

You poor thing.
My blood ran cold when i read this.
Sid broke his leg because of a very similar problem - over stocked fields, hungry horses and a dark night jostling at the gate to come in. What i will never forgive myself for is that I didn't do somehting earlier but like you the yard was great, the people (other liveries) were friends and you think it won't happen to you. Well it did and my gorgeous boy was retired at 11.
Less than 6 months later my friends mare was also kicked and sadly she didn't even get the retirement option.

Can you scour the loal tack shops /ask farriers / your local hunts or your vets for anywhere they know? Sometimes places don't advertise and its word of mouth that lets you find them.

Added to the fact you're obviously pregnant then its not something you can put up with - one of the girls on the yard slipped and fell in the field where sid was just weeks before he was hurt and how she didn't get trampled i have no idea. 7 hungry geldings going bananas is frightening when you're on your feet let alone when you're on the deck between their hooves.

i really hope for you and your filly that you manage to find somewhere soon.

Good luck xx
