Many years ago....
I was once told by two liveries (we'll call the A and B) that the YO said I HAD to move into the other stable block (from my lovely big airy stable over looking the yard) into the indoor block (smaller older stables but ok) but when I first moved up there I had the pick of any empty stable I wanted that was not already being used so obviously I chose one of the nicer ones...as you do.
Anyway the same day that I was told my livery person A I was asked by livery person B later on that afternoon by phone call that seen as I had to move into their block, that YO said I had to move into the stable next to hers, I said ok but I've yet to move and need to skip out etc and leave the other stable clean as I found it...as you do. Meanwhile livery B being overly nice and offering to help me get skipped out.
Feeling a little pushed and a little sus and if I'm honest a bit narked off because I was having to move from my nice stable to one ...well not as nice I rang the YO to ask why, he said he didn't have a clue what I was talking about and never told anyone that I had to move stables at all, he said (the other livery B) had rang him to ask if they could have my stable and asked if he could ask me to move as she needed a bigger stable and he said no if you want to swap you can ask her yourself and that the other livery A wanted to start and bring her mare in (restrict her grazing) but wanted another horse next to hers to keep hers company (as I used to bring my horse in over night all year through to keep his weight right).
So turned out that livery B just fancied a bigger stable for when she eventually bred from her mare ( she wanted a bigger box for it to foal in) enough despite the mare not even been covered yet and livery A wanted to be able to bring her mare in over night but didn't want to do it unless she had some company in the next stable.
I rang livery A and told her that I had spoken with YO and he said nothing of the sort (but in a polite way) I gave the chance to admit what they were both up to and come clean but rather than apologise she got all defensive and said that it was important that her horse needed to come in and she can't do it now and all the favours she'd done me (she mucked out a few times a few days before this event, never asked her to and of course I did thank her for her kindness but wondered why she was doing it) so I said explained that I felt very let down and disappointed that I was spun a yarn and lied to, if they had just been honest and told me why then I might of considered it on a temporary basis but because they went behind my back I was not prepared to help or swop stables...then slammed the phone down on me.
Mentioned it to the livery B the next time I saw her and she just laughed and said well I wanted your stable its better than mine!
and thought the whole thing was rather funny
YO said they he knew what they were up to and that they tried to take advantage of you because your quite soft etc and didn't think that you'd ring me to check.
I felt very hurt and it still annoys me to this day.
Same person (thankfully not on our yard anymore) the second time I met her she gloated to that when she was on her previous livery yard, they used to feed on of the other girls horses oats behind her back to make it stupid, I said it it dangerous and not at all funny, she smirked and said well we all did thought it was.
How can people be so evil? The first year being at a livery yard was a real eye opener, i was just in tears all the time on how people acted.
Thankfully its not like that anymore as they have moved on.
