I am moving my horse home (from uni) in august and have two yards at home which I cannot chose between (have never been to either)!! I need help!!!

He is 2 yo so will be coming up for backing in next 2 years therefore need the school/menage. Want to take him out on hacks too. And when he is older will do some jumping.

Prices r the same (give or take couple of quid a week) both are DIY

Heres the options

First one:

7 min drive from home

Not great hacking

American barn stables 12*12

40 acres (20 horses)

People were frinedly when I looked around

Lovely YO

Indoor school

Outdoor school

Secure tack room

3-4 horses per field

All year turnout (24 hours in summer)

Some SJ's

Second one:

2 min drive from home

Great hacking

Out door block stables 12*12

70 acres (40 horses)

People were frinedly when I looked around.

2 * Outdoor school

Secure tack room

All year turnout (only during day all year)

Horse walker

Solarium

Some XC jumps

Full set of SJ (YO is top showjumper)

Im so torn, I really dont want to go somewhere and have to move him. . . opinions please. . . .

Thanks in advance

hmmm..... it is a toughy!!

I would like the indoor school, but then the hacking is good in the 2nd.

I would say the 1st one, as you've spoke to friendly people there, they have an indoor school.

The other may have a solarium etc etc... but doubt you'd really need those things really.

plus indoor stabling is nice!!

For me the second one
But that's because I love hacking (my 4yo soon to be eventer thinks that going for a sunday morning plod is lovely)

I think I'd prefer some xc jumps, show jumps and horsewalker and outdoor schools compared to an indoor and an outdoor

Ooh thats tough... I'd say... actually... i really honestly don't know!! Indoor stabling is a big factor for me... i think its much better... but hacking is important too... ooohhh

seccond one has good hacking always good for babies outdoor stables so can c what is happening solerium plus horse walker great .the down side is ther isnt 24 hr turnout during summer so that may push twars the 1st one i have reccentaly moved as had o school but had great hacking but mine not great hacking the place i mpved to dont have best hacking but got cracking school

sorry not much help maby g have another look

I would say comuiting wise the second I know how anoying it is always traveling to and fro but 40 horses is a lot imho however 24 / 7 turnout in the summer saves a lot on beding and hay would you use that option if so I would go for 1

I would choose second; not keen on American barns, they can catch more germs

can also be hot in summer months.
But then 24 hour turnout in summer............... no, second one I love hacking!

first one. your horse is only 2 so is a couple of years away from needing full facilities! and as a baby turnout is the most important thing at the moment. once he is broken and doing your priorities will then require nice quiet hacking.

If your horse was older and already backed I would say the 2nd yard but for a 2yo I'd go for the 1st.

Both sound lovely though so, either should be fine.

Let us know which you choose and how you get on

Tough one, firstly I love the idea of good hacking. Big plus. But then I like the fact that during summer they can go out 24/7.

I had an indoor at last yard, was a life saver come snow, frozen ground etc but then I have several schools at current yard and would probably manage fine with one.

Why not take him to the better T/O yard for now(yard 1), as he is only two so better t/0 would be far more beneficial than luxuries like indoor and as with the hacking, if it's only five mins difference surely you could hack to the better hacking if that makes sense!
