Hi! I desperately need to find a livery yard for my gelding as soon as possible due to family illness meaning I can't travel to my current yard, which is quite a way away. I was wondering whether anyone knows whether it's a good/bad idea to try renting a field from a farmer?? I'm running out of options as there are almost no spaces available on the yards in my area, and presumably very few will come up over winter.

Or does anyone know of any yards in the wetherby/spofforth/Kirkby overblow/pannal area??? I have tried a few but would love it if people could suggest some others that I might not have come across yet.

Also, (not sure if this is allowed in here) but if anyone on here has a yard in this area then I would love to hear from you; it's for a 14.2hh gelding, has lived in and out all year round so grass or diy livery is fine. Has lived out with mares and geldings. Thank you so much!!!

Have you tried the York equestrian Facebook page? I found my small yard on there and often see posts about livery. What you're looking for sounds similar to my place but I'm the wrong side of Easingwold so too far probably, if you want any details tho pm me. Hope you find something, I know how much of a nightmare it is!

Thank you!! I'll check out York equestrian, maybe something will come up! I think your place probably will be too far since really I'm looking for somewhere quite close, thanks anyway! :)

Also, get in the car and drive round suitable areas. Knock on the door of every farm or anywhere that looks like it has horses, or even just houses with trailers on the drive. Most wont be livery yards or have a space, but they can usually give you a heads up about somone who might have somewhere :)

We rented from a farmer for a year and it was the best place I've ever kept my horse! We didn't have any facilities but we did have an automatic trough, field shelter split in two so part could be used for storage, and good fencing. It was very stress free and easy and when we started to get short of grass the farmer just told us to open the gate into the next field, no extra charge :)

Wow, that sounds great! There's a few farms right next to me, so it's seeming like a good option, thanks for letting me know that it can work, haha :)
