Hi

I am thinking of moving to Long Eaton or Beeston and I am wondering if anyone knows of any livery yards near either of these two places. It needs to be fairly near, within a couple of miles of either place, as I don't have transport (other than a bike). I am looking preferably for somewhere with a sand arena and/or some off road riding as my horse isn't great on busy roads. She also could do with all year round turnout.

Thanks
Emma

Cotton's is a large one. Nigel the farmer is nice. Very large fields. You can ride around the 22 acre when horses not in. You have to go on the road though if you actually want to go out but horses here probably have largest amount if turnout. It has a ménage with 30 min slots. I moved my youngster as wanted out 24/7/365. We now on a hillside near Bramcote tennis courts. 15 acre field with another 15 acre currently not in use. 5 gelding pony types. No facilities although the girls do ride out around a yucky short patch then off road. Small field as a ménage. Two large shelters but no facilities.. I describe it as a horse paradise. Field hasn't gone boggy although a little cut up. It's survived as hillside and good for their health also natural stuff growing thistles, rosehips etc and I plan to grow herb garden for them. Great natural place.. Probably not what you want. Cottons might work. There is the riding school between Beeston and long eaton unsure if they have off road, Hannah

St Leonards? They do have off road hacking but you have to cross a very busy road to get there. I'm not sure if it has changed but there used to be turnout issues and when I drove past the other day the livery turnout paddock was literally all mud, there wasn't a shred of grass.

barehoofhannah is that the field on the side of the A52? I was there for 4 or 5 years a long time ago!

Yeah that's the one! I'm trying to get new owner to make better access (flatter) out to the A52 so someone alone can leave their horse in the box whilst they open the gate without the risk of lorry hitting box as close or box rolling into road, then it be paradise in a natural horses opinion! Not having much luck and so bit stuck as its not much good to people as you can't box out easily alone and got to ride round pass nursing home to get off road. Just 4 owners there now and 5 horses which is good as I think 20 at one point. Why you move? Wanting facilities? It's hard for places with turnout, off road riding and being close to the city. I can walk from my house so it works providing owner doesn't sell the land and I don't freak and get arrested for assaulting one of the 200 tobogganists that been turning up!

I think you'll struggle to find a yard with facilities, good turn out and hacking whilst being in cycling distance in Beeston or Long Eaton. If you could travel a bit further out, either to Cossal or Risley way, there is a lot more choice, perhaps worth looking at somewhere on a bus route from where you live?

Ooh I didn't realise it'd been sold before we were there it was used as dairy grazing! I was there for a good 4 years but left about 8 years ago and there was like 20 horses! Is there anyone there who has been around for a few years? We only moved because a friend rented her own yard and offered cheap livery but it ended up being a total nightmare! God I remember we used to unload in the lay by it was so dangerous, mind you when the owner flipped out and locked the top gate the only way to get off the yard was to hack along the A52 and past the roundabout  and that corner by the nursing home is sooo dangerous!

Bournville's owner I believe has been about for ages, so you may have known her. I do the barefoot stuff so great for movement and hooves but hacking out from there I wouldn't do... Although I did manage to get my Mr Topaz up 3 flights of stairs in the ruins in order to get round the wood on the university land! Gosh braving the A52 and unloading in the layby, I don't think he'd do that easily! Such a shame could be a natural paradise if people could safely solo box out to A52. I load out the top but if walkers cars are they you are stuffed unless quick loader and someone with you and that's only as I have a narrow small box.

Oh yeah we were there at the same time, is it Katrina? Or something similar? We used to get on quite well- if you tell her say hi from me, I used to have Henry and Jif among others! Ahh the ruins used to be a bit of an obstacle course I remember being outraged when the Uni bought the land and fenced it off! It is such a good location and I was really happy there for a long time!
